Incision pain- is this normal?

Recommended Posts

So I am 3 weeks post op and my incisions appear to be healing nicely. The don't show signs of infections. After the first week or so I had no pain but then at 3 weeks out I have pain under one of the incisions (where they took stomach out). it is like a pulling pain. I would think this is normal but why didn't this area hurt like this before 3 weeks out? I would think the pain would have been worse right after surgery and better by now but instead it was better after surgery and worse now?

It feels good to put ice pack on it- any other suggestions? is this normal or something I need to call the doctor about?

It can't hurt to call the doctor. I've been told that it's normal to have pain a few weeks out, especially as things are healing.

I had pain at the largest incision from the beginning. Then it got really hard and even more painful. Then my abdomen started swelling up. I finally had surgery (at 7weeks post op) to fix an incisional hernia.

If it's really painful, call, explain your pain and see if it's normal. If not, you can go in and have your surgeon take a look, if it is, it will put your mind at east.

I had the same thing - I was absolutely sure I had herniated something. My dr said nope, it is just healing, and it may continue to hurt for a while, but it will go away. And it did after a few more months.

I'm 3 weeks out today and having the same issue. The largest incision where my stomach was removed was also the incision through which most everything was done. It was very bruised and hurt from the beginning and hurt all they way into my stomach when I got up and down and when I rolled over in bed. Then it quit for about a week. Now it's hurting again but it feels like it more just right under the incision. It starts burning for no reason. The firmness under it has gone away. It's soft and does not appear red. It's not warm to touch but it sure is painful. It times it feels like cramping and burning. I'm going to assume this is all normal healing.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
