ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....

Recommended Posts

I don't know how.you're doing it! I get 40-50 oz liquid a day- my.normal day consists of a.protein shake- 2 oz cottage cheese.w/5-6 pinto Beans and sugar free.Popsicles. Normally no dinner..just.too full!

I'm making myself eat every 2 hrs as directed by my dietician...she said if we stay too far under 800-1000 calories that I can hit a major plateau and I didn't want that at all

I'd like to be added to the fb group.. I was sleeved on April 16!! Just started on puréed foods!! I'm having trouble with this stage.. I'm really still only doing Protein Shakes and I've added Greek yogurt!!! What is everyone doing for puréed? The thought of puréed chicken kinda turns my stomach!!

Cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, sf Jello, sf pudding, mashed potatoes, sf applesauce, refried Beans ( like pintos and cheese), and believe it or not the blended chicken isn't too bad- I got a few suggestions on here from others that have been good for me. I bought chicken in the can from walmart-pureed it and topped it w ff cheese salsa and sour cream and its pretty much like Mexican chicken. Also topped w a little spaghetti sauce and parmesan cheese which tastes like chicken parm. I've also done tuna blended w ff mayo. I have been able to tolerate them because I've alw ays liked chicken salad and tuna salad anyways. I've done small portions of these, like 2 oz at a time.

White chicken chili puréed is quite good (mine isn't too spicy). My dr wants me to eat 1/4 c Protein 1/4 c fruit/veggie so I've had butternut parsnip Soup, white asparagus soup, and various puréed fruits as well.

I've also used the one in my Betty Crocker cookbook. I'll be honest, I never follow a recipe exactly so these are just guides.

Another thing I've liked is boneless chicken breast in the crock or Dutch oven with a jar of salsa. Cook till meat flakes apart and add 3/4 to a full brick of cream cheese (turns a pink color). That's ok puréed and my family eats it as flautas or tacos.

Thanks for the suggestions!!! They sound yummy! What about the texture tho? I think that's what scares me about puréed food!! Lol.. chicken in a can? Is that like tuna? I'm not sure I've ever seen it..

Btw I forgot to add my email address so I can be added to the group.. Riss523@aol.com

The chicken in a can is really just like chunks of chicken breast. They (walmart ) have a great value brand that's based in like a Tomato basil that's actually really good. They also have original that's just Like chicken breast. The texture works fine for me. I have texture issues as well. This is probably my limit.

I don't have issues with the texture when it is in a more soup/stew form. Plain ground chicken though is a bit off putting for me.

I'm going to check it out. Walmart is right down the hill from me so I walk there to get my walking exercise in without being stuck on a treadmill at the gym!!! Before surgery I would usually drive there!!! If its tuna like texture I can deal with that! But like you guys not much more puréed than that!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
