I was sleeved on 2/19/13 and discharged from the hospital on 2/21/13. I have been on Clear Liquids since then. Going to my first post op appointment today where they will move me up on food. But (and I will ask my surgeon about this) I have been having trouble sleeping a night. I can take a nap ok but even if I don't I still struggle with sleeping at night. Takes me forever to fall asleep and if my husband wakes me up early I can't fall back asleep no matter how tired I am. Anyone else struggling with this?

When I have problems sleeping, I take melation. It makes me sleepy pretty quick, but if I wake up at 2am I still have problems going back to sleep for an hour or so.

I use to just take naps whenever I needed to all day week one. Once you can get back to your usual sleep position, it really helps

Maybe you should try NOT taking a nap? I know it's hard but naps on a consistent basis will throw your sleeping pattern off.

Susie,

I was the same way for about a month to a month and a half after surgery.

I though OMG I will never sleep normal again!

However I am 4 months out and I sleep very sound at night now!

My dr. said it has something to do with all the new found energy.

You will be back to normal.

I was a lousy sleeper before surgery and guess what? I'm STILL a lousy sleeper haha. At least the snoring is gone!

I'm 4 day post op and I sleep only 1 hr here and there. I can't find a comfortable way to sleep. Why is this?

I had terrible trouble sleeping, so much that the dr gave me a sleep aid. when I got home from the hospital I'd get about 2 hours of sleep a day. The rest of the time I was a zombie who couldn't sleep. They gave me trazodone which puts me out completely but I'd like to not make it a habit.

I may try my melatonin again because it did help prior to surgery. . If you're not sleeping you're not healing, don't be afraid to ask the dr for help in this.

It's not unusual ...I've had several surgeries and never sleep well after. .nothing to do with position. This surgery was virtually painless and I didn't sleep well ay first either. I raised the head if my bed and sat there to watch the news. I woke up @ 10am!!! I've not slept 11 hours in decades! I was in that perfect zero gravity position and just slept!!! Felt good!!!

I told the surgeon and he just said I'm still getting out all the junk they put in my system for the surgery and to give it time and I should start sleeping soon.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
