Hi again, no not taking any medication specific for it. I knew before I had my op that some surgeons choose to remove the gallbladder at same time, but mine never mentioned it, and like most other people it really didn't cross my mind that this might happen. If only we all had hindsight, it would be so wonderful, I'm a little worried as to what may happen now as we really can't afford another private operation at the moment, and being put on a public wait list just raises more questions for me, I guess I'll find out in the morning what the Dr thinks the next course of action should be. Now, I just have to try and not stress too much.

Thanks both of you guys for asking and that, I know we probably got off on the wrong foot the other day, I think I felt attacked and mistook what was said, my temper since my surgery has been pretty volatile at times. I just have to remember to try and keep a lid on it :-/

Please keep us updated on how you're doing... I hope they will schedule you for surgery soon. I can relate to not being able to do another self pay surgery. I know you mentioned being afraid to eat. It is true that a lot of gall bladder attacks happen after meals. I read here on the forums that its better to eat very lean meats and try to avoid foods high in fat and that it helps to ward off some attacks. My heart goes out to you. Stay strong!

Dr has put me on a public waiting list for surgery. I am seeing my surgeon on 11th for my checkup so am going to ask for his quote for the job. My GP said to me that I should present at the Hospital or call ambulance if I have other attacks as it may speed up the wait list for public.

Maybe my surgeon might give me a "no out of pocket" quote (I could only fantasize about that)

Have started eating again and yes steering away from high fat items completely so hopefully this will do the trick.

It's funny really, the first time I attempted to "bust out" and have some potato chips and this happens - its a sign, it just makes me more determined that I can make a success of this sleeve.

So I had my gallbladder out about 9 years ago and weightloss is one of the things that can cause an increase in attacks. I had lost about 35lbs and was having attacks daily, even when I only ate small amounts. Mine was done quickly because my gall bladder had died and was causing an infection. Best surgery I ever had. I can feel your pain. Nothing like it in the world. It doesn't surprise me that so many here have suffered from this considering what brings us all here. My specialist also told me that rarely once you have started having attacks, can they be controlled long term without surgery. Im really glad I did it and just wish I hadn't suffered so long. Good luck and wish you a quick resolution.

Is the public waiting list long? I think that's a good idea about showing up at the hospital every time you have an attack, if it moves you up on the list!

And yes I guess that would teach me not to eat a chip too!

The public system is pretty fast with initial contact here. It's hard to tell how long a wait will be though, I know about 15 years ago I waited almost three years to have my varicose veins stripped, then my son only waited two months to have surgery on his mouth last year, he is special needs though and i think it was pushed forward due to that fact.

I've decided I'm just going to be positive, there's no use being miserable, think happy thoughts Jen :-)

Besides I might win lotto soon and be able to go private again LOL

Oh the things I would do if I won the lotto!!!

Sometimes I can sit and day dream and spend the whole amount in less than 10 minutes!!

mini.me.....eat as little fat as possible. Bile is stored in the gallbladder to assist with digestion of fats. If you can go non-fat until surgery all the better. Spicy foods also make your gallbladder want to send in the digestive juices. I waited six months for my gallbladder surgery after my first episode. I learned how to avoid them for the most part and lost a lot of weight waiting for surgery that they said was non-emergent because I did not have signs of an infection....just tons of PAIN!! I finally had my gallbladder removed in 1990...it was so wonderful to not have to deal with that horrible pain!!!

Today's update

Seen my surgeon and he will remove that horrible gallbladder for me

He is not charging over what he claims back from Medicare and my health fund so all I have to pay for is the anaesthetist and my health cover excess. It will still cost me around 1000 out of pocket but I think it's less stress knowing my surgeon will be doing it and not some no name nelly.
