Is it time to try Milk of Magnesia? (Time for some more TMI!)

Recommended Posts

Hey, all, I've seen enough on here to know that it's okay to let fly with the TMI. :) I started my phase 2 diet on Monday, which is full liquids. Prior to full liquids I had some pretty crazy diarrhea for a while, which was to be expected. If I remember correctly, I've only had two BMs since Monday. I don't feel particularly bloated or constipated. I haven't had the urge to go, and then struggled with it or anything. When I did go, it wasn't bothersome, it was just somewhere in between loose and firm. (Ugh, I just cringed saying that. Sorry!) The thing that's bothering me is that I really haven't gone in a couple of days at least, I think it may be more, I just can't remember. I've gained two pounds, and there is just really no way for that to happen on two Protein Shakes, the occasional sugar-free popsicle or chicken broth, and Water every day. I'm becoming alarmed that I may be facing an, um... impending hour of terror in the bathroom. I've never taken a laxative or stool softener in my life. For some reason they kind of scare me. Would it be acceptable to take some pre-emptive Milk of Magnesia since it's been so long? I'm also trying to up my water, to see if that helps.

Milk of Magnesia was my savior during the first two months after my surgery. I wasn't able to go at all, and when I did, my stools were so hard it would literally take an hour to go, and it would tear me up, I would actually be bleeding. Someone recommend MOM to me and it was wonderful. I would take a does of it at dinner time and would feel so much better. My surgeon also concurred with my taking it.

I use miralax- it is a softner and stimulant. I have had a terrible time in this department as soon as i hit 3 weeks post-op. I actually mark on my calendar a small little "b" so i know exactly when my last bm was. And i think i am going to stop eating cottage cheese for awhile. I think it contributes to the hardness problem. And absolutely - get 64oz of fluids in.

I am 4 months out and I still have problems!

I was told by the Dr. office to make prune tea.

Put prunes in a pot of Water and let them steep.

If you are at the stage to eat the prunes afterwards then that will help too. (The ones you steeped are soft then)

Drink the prune tea and it helps me.

I started taking the fiber tables by fiber choice. So far so good. Everything's been great. I was a little worried today since it has been a few days but everything was normal. I need to get use to the fact my body will only need to go every few days.

Well, people... boy was I right. I won't go into detail, but hours after this post my concern was confirmed and it was an adventure. I took my first Milk of Magnesia dose today and I'm hoping it helps. That stuff is gross, but I'm more than willing to take it if it works. I just mixed it with some of my Protein Shake and that made it drinkable. Thanks for all of the input!

A combination of Miralax and chia seeds works really well for me.

MoMagnesia was my savior. It tastes vile, but I'm taking it weekly now and have not been constipated since. It really is a blessing.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
