I'm going on solids soon. I was wondering what people have been eating. How are you keeping yourself from over-eating. I'm a food addict and I'm afraid of getting out of control. Any ideas? Thanks.

Jeanette - I've started solids today. I'm starting out with some soft baked fish. Or tuna.

What I'm trying to do instead of eyeballing it, is I measure my food out. That way I know I'm not over eating.

This is the point that we will be increasing our calories, so keep in mind that our bodies have been eating very little before solids, so their might be a weight gain, but thats okay. It will soon come back off once our bodies get used to the new adjustment.

My doctor recommends trying a food then see how you react with it, then move to another type of food. Since Protein is so important, I'm trying to eat lean meat.< /p>

I'm also adding in a small amount of veggies. I'll start with some can green Beans since fresh are a bit stringy and could get stuck.

Hey all,

Had my two week follow up. He's pleased with everything, including my 17lb weight loss. Said I'm to be on mushies for two weeks (I started two days ago), then go onto real foods. Said he won't even talk 'fill' yet until a month from now. So, that's fine...I'll just have to deal with it, and be sure to make wise food choices if I feel no restriction.

He's keeping me out of work two more weeks, b/c of my fluctuating blood sugars, and b/c I have had such a horrible recovery period. Fine by me!!!

I have had some 'small' NSV's: I can feel my jaw bone!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too have buttoned some things that haven't in ages! Particularly one velvet blazer. Got on summer capris that will probably be too big...but it feels so good to get them on!

Also started to rid the closet of things with tags that I've never worn, and never will, b/c they'll be too big by summer!!!

I'll share something funny with you guys/gals....as most of you guys are aware, I haven't shared my lap-band with many people, no one from work knows.

I'm so obsessed with my lap band, that is all I think about. Well, today my manager and I was in a meeting together and she is getting me a lap top computer, well, when I start talking to her, I call it a lap band. LOL. I know she is thinking "what is a lap band", so we continue talking and I continue to call it a lap band. She finally says are you talking about the lap top. LOL. I know she thinks I'm crazy.

GREAT JOB! I will send you those recipes that you PM'd me about tonight, I have them on my home computer! Last night was too crazy around my house, and I didn't have time to get on the computer.

I had a lot of trouble with my blood sugar too, mainly before surgery, they had to give me glucose, then after surgery - they kept me overnight because my sugar kept dropping. I think that played in with making my eyes so blurry. Are you having any vision problems?

Your doing great!!!! Thats so cool about the jaw bone!

Hey all,

Hope that you're doing well today! I just had a story to share. I think that many of us have a different viewpoint on how we looked. I never say myself as heavy as I actually am. Then when I'd see a picture I'd be so shocked. I guess the mind plays some tricks.

So, anyway, my DH was asking if I felt like I was losing weight and I said yes, I feel my clothes getting looser. A little bit later I asked him, "did he see me losing weight?" He was quiet for a moment (he is a teaser) and then said, "yes, in your back and shoulders."

I remember having this thought, my back and shouders are fat? When did that happen? I only thought it was my butt and gut! Not really but have you ever really thought about where you carry your weight?

For some reason, this image just makes me smirk. Maybe him too.

Hope this brings a chuckle to you.

Shawn

Remember most people are counting what they weighed before their pre op diet. So I have lost 23 pounds, but 8 of it was before surgery. 12 pounds is almost a pound a day! HELLO!

Exactly, my stats show I lost 39 lbs, but around 15 to 20 of it was Pre-surgery. I've always just counted my beginning weight, I figure, I lost it, why not count it. lol.

Everyone is different, so don't compare yourself to others. Age plays a role in how fast people lose (the younger lose faster) Men lose faster.

Also, the heavier you are, usually the more a person will lose faster. You are doing great, 12 lbs /15 lbs is nothing to be sad about, its great!

I've lost 15 lbs in 4 weeks, so you're doing better than me. You're doing great, so don't get discouraged. And you'll start to lose even more after you've had a fill.

Mine gets sore too! I'm 4 weeks out and still sore a little. I've just been taking it slow. My doc told me a good 6 to 8 weeks is healing time.

How long are you walking? Are you walking on a treadmill?

I would say if your walking for 30 min, cut down to 10 min or 15. If your walking on a treadmill, get off. The treadmill killed me. I walk at a slower pace than I want to, but that is all I can do right now. I am trying to increase it every week, however, If I'm sore, I cut it back to the slower pace again.

I totally understand your frustration. I want to jump back on my elliptical machine again, I want to start lifting weights, and I want to go back to the 5 am spinning class. However, there is no way I can do these yet, as much as I want to. I figure the most important thing is healing, and then we can kick some butt in the gym!:clap2:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
