Quick question... I'm still in the pre-surgery stage and up until this past week I believed I was getting the RNY, however I have since switched over to the VSG due to some things found in my test results.

With the RNY, I know that you're not supposed to take NSAIDs - however does that apply to the VSG as well?

I'm sorry if this has already been asked before - I'm a newbie and still trying to figure out this site.

I appreciate any and all responses.

- Kari :)

Any of the research I've done has said no NSAIDs with VSG and my post surgery instructions from my doc are no NSAIDs.

WHOA!! Depends on the doctor!! I take NSAIDS, presecription strength and maximum dosage, every day and have since about three weeks post op, with my doctor's blessing. And I'm almost a year out now.

Ask your doctor what his thoughts are and why.

I got a tooth infection 2 weeks out and was told I could take them temporarily. I'm going to check with my doc next visit on his pain med rules, because liquid and chewable children's Tylenol is freaking expensive.

Thank you again - I will definitely speak with my surgeon about what his rules are for NSAIDs. This is all very helpful!

My surgeon allows NSAIDs about 90 days after surgery, which is one of the reasons I chose VSG over RNY (he prefers you not take NSAIDs after RNY, but if you really have to, he has you take a PPI or other gastric protective agent). I am going to try to limit how often I take NSAIDs even after this time period, and to be safe, I'll probably still take with a gastric protective drug that my surgeon recommends. Hopefully the weight loss will help with some of my joint aches that cause me to take the NSAIDs. I have been doing fine with liquid Tylenol when needed for now. As others have said, your surgeon can let you know his/her preference. I think it's great you were switched from RNY to the sleeve. There are so many reasons I'm glad that's what I chose.

My doc saids NSAIDs are fine but must be taken with milk or some minor food such as crackers or small amount of yogurt. He said what they concerned about it ulcers...hence using milk to sort of coat the stomach.

Thank you all so much again - this is all very helpful information! I'll be sure to follow up with my surgeon in regards to this.

And I have to say - when I found out I was getting the sleeve, I was oddly relieved. The more and more I got into the RNY, the more uneasy I felt about it, but seemed like I should do it because it is the "gold standard" in bariatrics. I think this was a blessing in disguise. :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
