excercise

I am considering getting sleeved this summer. My concern is that I am very limited with any activities including walking due to back problems. I will make any attempts as I need to. Will this procedure still help me lose weight? Please advise! Thank you!

If you are considering this surgery, have you gone to any surgical consults? They provide a lot of info. This surgery is work. While some do not exercise others do, however, exercise is only one small piece . There is a structure to it that will take you through the rest of your life.

But yes you will loose weight

Definitely do your research I live in NorCal and the surgery center that I went through offer a "Free Informational Seminar" weekly and one of the WL Surgeons and the Nurse Practioner headed up the Seminars so I was able to ask lots of questions about provider appproval, different types of WL surgeries, etc. any questions I had they answered. I went a few times and asked lots of questions and the Surgeon who generally hosted I chose to be my surgeon.

The surgery is a tool! as Tawnie stated above some folks do workout and some do very little working out it's up to you and what you want to get out of this. This is not a fix all you still have to do the work which is eating right, working out, you're still going to have to deal with your emotions. 90% of this is mental if you haven't already researched and read, your mind is not having surgery so unless you change your mindset about food and exercising - basically creating a new life style you may not be successful in your WL journey.

Definitely, continue to come on here and ask questions research and if you can go to a Informational Seminar or WL Support group prior so you can gain real insight the ups and downs I would recommend it.

Definitely talk to the surgical group/surgeon you're working with. I have experienced chronic back problems since I was 17. I also have hip displaysia in my left hip that hasn't been corrected (my right hip has been fixed). I started out walking on the treadmill and finding ways to make me self walk more whenever I could. Every little but helps.

Hopefully you can find some form of exercise that'll work for you, or that you can work out a good plan for you with your surgeon. Don't give up is the main thing.

Thank you for your reply. I won't give up. Just nervous not knowing if I am definitely ready for something so major. Having gained 80 pounds since back surgery in 2009 to now I have been so depressed and miserable. No self esteem. Fighting with my husband all because I'm unhappy about my appearance. I want to look pretty again

Hi Shabani, I had surgery in August 2012, just over 6 months ago. I have lost 110 lbs. I'm sad to say that I haven't worked out hardly at all. If you search "lazy" you will find my story along with others on another thread. My doctor has asked me to start doing 30 minutes 3x a week to get my heart rate up, and I should, but just so you know it does come off. I'm am very careful about what I eat. I know my exercise history so I have too be very strict about the food.< /p>

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
