Coordinator called and said, "Okay I submitted your paperwork -- how does March 5 sound?" Ahhh so soon! I don't know why it seemed to take so long to get to this point, and now it's suddenly here. I know I need to do this and that it will be the best thing I ever do, but I can't help second guess myself. What's wrong with me?!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with you! You are now realizing that the committment you've made to a life-changing surgery is here......and you're overwhelmed by it!

That is completely normal and having second thoughts is your mind "checking in" to make sure you really want this. It often happens to people just before they get married, have a baby, buy their first house.........all big life-events.

Review your original reasons for making this decision in the first place. Has anything changed? Have things improved? Do you suddenly think you can lose (and keep off) the weight by yourself, for the rest of your life? If your answer is no, then the reasons you chose the surgery in the first place are still valid, and your choice to go ahead is still valid.

Use these doubts to re-verify your initial decision and if everything checks out, go for it!

2nd thoughts, doubts????

this happened to me this morning when i was trying to decide on a scrambled egg or yogurt

inquiring minds want to know......i had the egg

seriously now folks :)

SR910

these emotions, being scared, nervous et al - happened to me and many many others - very common

you are excited on having the WLS - you know your life will start to change for the better

I see B) how smart you are - please don't continue to 2nd guess the wise decision you made months ago

you went through a long, involved, hard process

went through allll the hoops to get to where you are in being able to get WLS march 5

its ok to be nervous, scared, but try not to let it get the better of you

this board is here for you and all other pre-sleevers alike

once you get the sleeve - you won't believe how much healthier and happier you will continue to be :)

having few nerves are worth it in the long run - considering what your new life will be like

happy sleeve day

good luck

speedy recovery :)

SR910...I'm right there with you. My surgery is scheduled for March 6th and I'm super excited...and super nervous. I mean this is really IT, no turning back once I do this. I KNOW without a doubt that I want to do this, but I've been hearing that little voice in my head say "but you've lost 20 since Christmas..maybe you don't realy need it" and "what if, something goes wrong" But you know what, my husband always tells me "Fear or Faith"? Gotta choose one or the other, and I am not going to live my life in Fear! So here we go....3 weeks from today and we will both be on the other side!!! Want to get on the roller coaster with me??? I hear it's an amazing ride!!!

Aw, I love all of you!! Thanks for the reassuring words -- I know I need this, want this, and that it'll be such a good experience. The pre-op diet is scaring me the most. I know I can do it, I just feel like it's going to take a LOT of mental willpower. I wish I could just lock myself in a room for 2 weeks and not have to see/smell/etc all the foods that are 1) not of nutritional value, and 2) off limits.

I'm definitely going to write a list of reaffirming points -- why I'm doing this, how I'll have such a happier and fulfilling life, how wonderful life will be afterwards...

Thank you again. I'm glad I have vst and people who can relate!

What kind of pre-op diet are you doing? Luckily my Dr. doesn't require weeks of liquids like others so I've sorta been doing mine since Christmas. Super Low Carb, low cal. I actually did really well for the first 3-4 weeks. But now that I'm down to 3 weeks left I feel like I'm white-knuckling it, everything is sending me over the edge and I'll be super glad when it's done. My secret is sugar free Jello and Sugar Free Gum. Just remember it's only temporary! You can do this!!!

Hi sr910 and Vicki,

I'm in Western Australia and having my gastric sleeve done on 5 March. Since making the decision at Christmas time I have been very, very impatient for this life changing surgery to happen!!

I know I will be anxious when I get to the hospital but after that, well ..... BRING IT ON!!!

There has been a programme on TV for the last few weeks called My Big Fat Operation, it's an English reality show about various people's journeys through bariatric weight loss surgery. It shows graphic shots of the surgery which are a bit confronting but I can't stop watching and listening to the patients' stories and it's so wonderful to see how happy they are after they've lost the weight.

That will be US very soon. :-)

It's two full weeks (starting this Tuesday!)

2 Protein shakes a day and one small meal of Protein and veggies -- no bread, Pasta, rice, etc. My nutritionist said some people forego food entirely and do 3-5 Protein Shakes a day. My jaw clicks like crazy so I steer clear of gum, but Jello sounds kind of good! I haven't had jello for a long time, actually...

Definitely going to stock up on a few things this weekend...

Thank you for the encouragement!!

Oh and I thought I'd share some news... I had arm surgery in November which involved cutting one of the bones in my arm. The bone hasn't fully healed (okay it hasn't healed at all yet -- one of my arm bones is only being held together by a plate and screws) and my arm doctor wants me to wait on WLS. I figure if it's not healing now, it probably has the same chances -- or maybe better -- of healing after WLS because I'll be super religious on Vitamins and getting a certain amount of protein and nutrients. I called the arm doctor's office today, but didn't get a call back. Hopefully I'll hear from them Monday.

(And btw I'm being religious with a multi, d3, and B12 right now, so I'm already in the habit of taking Vitamins multiple times per day.)

I'm sure I'll post a whiny thread if my arm doc makes me reschedule haha

This show sounds amazing!! I'll look and see if I can watch it online somewhere. And I'm pretty sure Australia is in the future (time-zone) compared to California, so you're going first!!

Good luck!! Yes we will all be happy and healthy sooner than we could've ever done it on our own -- yay!!

You can do this! After everything is said and done you will be so glad you did it. Remember the weight you lose before surgery will make it less weight you have to lose after surgery :-) Thats an added bonus. Also your liver will thank you for shrinking it so your surgery can go a little smoother.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
