Another 7.3 km in 70 minutes! Is there another thread for graduates of couch to 5k or do you guys want me to stay?
O course we want you to stay! It's so inspiring to see people who have succeeded following the same program we hope will work for us. Would love to hear your advice and watch your progress.

Thanks Butter! Sounds like a trip to REI is in my future. Oh darn! ;-)

Me too! My husband loves that store. You Washingtonians! All alike. :)

Come in, do it with us. My husband just started yesterday. Let's struggle through it together. Trust me, no one would look at me and think, there goes a future runner. For one, I hate sweating :) But the first week has given me hope and I think you might surprise yourself.

Also, I took pressure off myself by saying it was okay to repeat weeks. That I didn't care about finishing in 8 weeks, I just wanted to finish. So what if it takes me 16 weeks to finish because I have to do each week twice? Still lapping everyone on the couch.

There's not another thread that I know of and it was encouraging when I first started to see people that had started with C25K go on to achieve longer distances and/or faster times.

I ran 4 miles this morning in 52 minutes. Pace was 12:58. Looking forward to the Disney Haunted Trails 5K on Saturday. I'm looking for a 10K race for November.

I love REI. But I think I've heard there's a minimalist shoe store in Seattle called Born To Run.

So there is, and right near where my husband works. Oh darn, must go shopping. Thanks for the tip!

I just finished week 2 day 1 (for the second day in a row). Will my lungs catch on as I progress? Right now, it's all I can do to make it the 90 seconds because my lungs don't want to cooperate and I get so out of breath. Any advice for that one? :)

Slow down! Running doesn't have to be fast. Just faster than walking.

Just finished w6d2, I ran three miles in new balance minimus shoes. I feel great no knee pain..atleast not yet. Also tonight I ran around the block a couple times with my girls while they scootered. My ten year old said "Mom it is nice to not have to stop while you catch up" a great NSV! Thanks for your help butter, I worked on my form and keeping bent knees...

How fast are you running?

Walking at 3.5. Jogging at 5. Incline at 1. I didn't really think that was too fast. I guess I should just tone it down a little until my body gets used to the exercise. I'm bad at being all or nothing.

If you can't breathe, it's too fast. Ease back just a bit. Your lungs will improve very rapidly.

It can help if you find a rhythm for your breathing based on your steps. I start at 4 steps in, 3 steps out. About halfway through I switch to 3/2. You need longer to breathe in than out.

Definitely too fast for a beginner. You want to run at a speed where you can still have a conversation.

A 5mph pace at 1% is equivalent to an 11:44 mile. When I first started running I was around a 14:00 mile. I am slow, but I ran for 50 minutes this morning without stopping. My pace was in the high 12:00s and I was thrilled with that. Work on distance and endurance before you worry about how fast you run.

Thanks. I'll try scaling back and see how that works. I want to build my endurance and make it through the program (and hopefully beyond) so I appreciate the advice.

I would definitely suggest baby steps with starting any exercise routine. A lot of people, including myself, have the same mentality when they commit to something, they feel they have to be awesome and over the top from the first day. While the commitment is admirable, do know that exercising above where your fitness level is can result in injury, and then you can't exercise at all.

Your endurance will increase as you lightly progress. Take it easy. It will happen.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
