Texarkana Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Teresa,

I'm not even sure what "restriction" is. I can still eat pretty much anything I want. I still feel hungry sometimes. I have never felt "real" restriction, except for when I take a bite or a drink that was too big. I am however noticing my portions are getting smaller and it takes very little to fill me up, so now I'm thinking more about the kinds of food/meals I take in, trying to get the right nutrition. I'm no saint though! I didn't take a fill last time, but this time I might. I feel sore a lot around my band? Wonder why?

Well, I gotta a call back.Still waiting for answer. This is a weird feeling, I dont feel like I have the band and then I get a twinge of pain in my left shoulder. That isnt new just hurts a little more. I am so hungry, I am adding more Protein Shakes since it is going on thru anyway. Before this last "fill" I could only eat a small amount in the morning and at lunch. Not now !! If I could lose without the restrictin part that would be awesome. But someone has to help me with my portions again !!

Sometimes that sweet spot is hard to find. I would magine if you lose weight, a substantial amount, that spot might change a little. If your stomach shrinks the band should become a little looser. Seems that way anyway. I will ask the dr. about that next time I go. Just hang in there. If you are still hungry a lot, then let the dr. know and they may be a little more aggressive next fill. I have signed up to go to the Lap Band conference in Dallas, Oct. 3 I feel like New Julie, I think it will be a good pep-rally. Encouraging. Might get some new ideas or info too. Sure can't hurt, right? We all need a lift once and awhile. Take care.

Teresa,

maybe if you could tolerate slim fast again for 2 weeks, like before the banding, you could drop 20 before the wedding? Just a thought. As you can see, i have not lost like i thought i would. I thought since i couldn't eat as much at one time, that what little bit of grazing i did and the lack of exercise wouldn't make that much of a difference,,,,,but it does. I never felt hungry because i never gave myself the chance to get hungry. About once a month, i have started doing slim fast for a week just to keep myself in check and i've started out doing nothing more than lifting dumbells and it's gradually turning into more exercise because i'm beginning to "feel" better. I also put up a "slim" picture of myself near my closet and i see it every night when i get out the next day's wear. So i go to sleep with that" slimmer vision " in my mind. The bible says as you believe, so shall you receive. I'm working on that, hope this helps. See yourself one size smaller before the 4th, you still have time on your side!!! Good luck!

Good morning everyone,

Hipp, Hipp, hooray!!!!! That's for you, Hippmom.

I am finally tight after 8 fills, but it is what it is. I had to cancel my appt for next week, and I weighted myself and it seems like I've losted around 6 lbs. I won't change my ticker until next week.

Lou Ann and I have joined the "Wellness Center" at the hospital. It is great. They have a pool, a small inside track (you have to walk 22 laps to get a mile). I have gone for 3 days now. I can get my strenght training there. Can't swim a lick but the pool is only 4 ft.

Congrats, on your DS wedding.

NewJulie, I like that saying. Believing and receiving.

thanks everyone. I am so SCARED I have a leak too. I am mad I didnt get called back. I want to go in and see what is in there! There is NO WAY I can get it repaired and I will be very unhappy to say the least. I have a long way to go to pay for the surgery anyway. I am praying that it is okay and he just didnt put much back. I have never felt like this after a fill. I called today and will call every day until they get me in I guess. Thanks for your support and suggestions. Slimfast and Protein Shakes are probablly what I need. I have gained 6 pounds. : (and I am starving.

TP, did you call (903) 794-0022? I called the other day to cancel my appt. and I got the front desk. Maybe you can get someone there to help you.

I understand about the other number, I never got a call back either.

I believe if you hit 0 you get the front desk. I have only gone in once inbetween appts. If you have any questions, as with any doctors, (not just Dr. K or Dr. H), be assertive...ask...and be satisfied with your answer before you leave. I have never had any problem with PS. Just be sure and ask for what you need and I believe you will get the results you want. Anybody going to the 2008 Lap Band Convention in Dallas? I am making plans to go, hope nothing comes up to cancel them. Actually I could use the get-away. New Julie is going but that is all that I know of from our T-Town group. Kind of expensive but I think it will be worth it. Take care everone.

Welcome Amberstar! We are always glad to see new folks. Do you live in this area now? There are support group meetings at Wadley Hospital the 2nd Mon. night every month at 7p.m. They are mostly Precision Surgery patients but I am sure there are some that are transfers that have moved in from other towns. Do you travel back and forth to Dallas for your after care? Again, welcome.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
