alright tough guys - how long to recover?

Recommended Posts

Everyone is different and I hope your surgery and recovery go well. Mine went really well and I have no complaints and only stayed one night in hospital. I had my surgery on a Thursday, so I missed Thur and Fri, relaxed all that weekend (except for walking some about every other hour), and I went back to work that next Monday and worked half a day. Then the next day I went and worked full days from that day forward. So I missed 2 1/2 days of work. I could have taken more days, but I just gauged how I felt and went on that. I have a desk job now, so that helped me miss very little time from work.

I was sleeved on a Wednesday morning, on Friday morning the removed a drain which sent me into a huge nausea downfall and then the pain was just over the top like I felt right out of surgery. I stayed one more night & on Saturday morning my wife came to the hospital and brought me home. I went back to work yesterday a full 9 hours & when I got home crashed! Wednesday 2-13-13 will be my 3 week post op date. Take the time if you can!!!

I had surgery on a Monday, out of the hospital on Wednesday, felt good enough to go back to work on Friday. No heavy lifting, of course.

I had an easy recovery. Rested whenever I could. Went back to work on day ten, but could have gone back by day seven.

Everyone is different. Better to take a few extra days that you don't need, than to not have enough and feel bad at work!

I took 3 weeks, as stated earlier, go back to work Saturday. I've found that I've been sitting on my ass for 2 weeks, walking, drinking, sipping, walking, reading, watching tv, sitting...sitting...yeah. I've enjoyed the time off, but man could have gone back to work and saved my time.

i was sleeved the 18th. i type this from my office. maybe i'm abnormal, but i was sleeved last monday, discharged tuesday at 0600 and felt good enough to work wednesday. i was tired, but i felt fine. no pain meds, very little gas pain that i walked off. I never thought it would be this way. I'm down 12 lbs in 7 days (mostly Water, i know, but weight is weight). i guess the takeaway from this thread is the only common theme is that there is no common theme. some people take weeks, others days. neither is wrong or cause for concern. you have to be in touch with the messages your body is sending and let that guide your actions.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
