Infections

Infections can lead to increased alkaline phosphatase. Examples are localized infections, such as infections of the gallbladder in cholecystitis, or infections of bone as in osteomyelitis. Large scale infections can also increase the enzyme. Sepsis is a condition of widespread infection and an aggressive immune response. The infection and the immune response damage tissues and release cellular enzymes such as alkaline phosphatase.

Looks like this might be involving your gallbladder?

Hi' date='

I have counseling and physical therapy today. Pt is part of the program too!

I completely hear you on food. I had head hungry but I seemed to have moved past it. The dr recently asked me if I feel anorexic. It was the weirdest question. I have been good to eat anything I want. Oddly nothing sounds good. Everyone keeps saying eat eat eat!!! It's annoying and it's hard to eat. Not to mention I am still vomiting. Then days like yesterday happen where I choose to not eat.

I have never heard of this "feed a cold starve a fever". Have you been sick since surgery? Did you follow these guidelines or fall back into your old way?

Head hunger is strong!!! I wonder what kinds of books there are? Read any?

I no longer order food when we go out. It's pointless. Can't eat enough of anything and it doesn't taste good. The left overs are in plenty; too much. How much sushi can you eat? I was reading a thread this am. You posted that no food really gives you grief?! Is it so? Sugar is a nightmare for me. It comes right back up.

Have a good day!!!

Best,

Sannah[/quote']

Sannah,

That sounds like a long day, with just those appointments! You must be worn out after those.

Your right that is a weird question about the anorexia.. I mean what do you say to that one?

I imagine that you have just gotten to the point of so much misery that food is not top priority.

But you know I will tell you.." Sannah you still need to get those things in, especially the liquids"

Lol as far as the "feed a cold" thing I told you that is an OLD saying , and I'm an old woman :)

So I'm not surprised you haven't heard it.

I have for the most part done well. But have had a few minor colds and bad health type days...

But food is no longer the "medicine" I go for..

I hope it stays that way.

I have read one book that helped me a lot about a year before my surgery, it is called,

"Anatomy of a food addiction" I really learned a lot about my eating and even cut out sodas and any kind of sugars, sweeteners (real or fake) from my diet...

Now that I've had this surgery though, I've been drinking mio Water (artificial sugar) and even sweeten my coffee now.. I'm a little disappointed in myself about that.. Because I feel I was really addicted to those kinds of foods.

Hehe I did see you on that thread about food!

Watch out it can get rough out there sometimes!

Yes I had a "thin mint"cookie and had no problems with it!

When we go out to eat its mostly sushi, I eat about three small pieces is salmon sashimi. One order contains four, so my daughter or son will "help me out" and take the last piece!

Sushi is good because you can order just one small thing and its not wasteful.. I'm a cheap

date.

I saw that you got some tests back, Sannah I hope that they help to bring about some treatment options for you.. I'm not going to harp on you about that, because I feel bad about the advise about the ER and then you getting no relief! I blame them though!

I am wishing that something comes from your appointment tomorrow though..

Laura

First off, you DO NOT appear to be old!! You are so youthful and beautiful!!! ????

It sounds like you have made a lot of changes. You shouldn't be so hard in yourself for the Mio!! My word lady!! You've done so great and Muo really isn't that bad is it? What flavor do you enjoy? Are you a tea drinker? Oh my coffee!! Yes please!! We have an amazing espresso machine here at home. I purchased some "sugar free" Torani syrups. Yummy!!

Anatomy of a Food Addiction sounds like a good read!! Maybe I should check it out. Although I currently don't feel addicted to food. I feel like I have the opposite problem I should read it anyhow.

I talked to the counselor about taking breaks from eating and drinking. I know it's not good, but I still find comfort in a break from it. I am buying a sports watch to set for two hours to remind myself to eat. She said I need to work on building a positive experience with food. Haha!! Funny that you mention food as medicine. I have asked to view food as "medicine" and to feed myself so I can get used to eating. I will give this a good faith effort. ????

Sushi eh? I never thought I would eat it. The idea of raw seafood is bothersome. But maybe I should try it!? Maybe I will like it. Salmon!? Any other suggestions?

I hope that you've had a great day!! Have a restful nights sleep!! I am most certain I will find relief and have a plan for my care tomorrow.

Best,

Sannah

Hi Katie,

How are you doing?

I am hanging in here. One day at a time!! :) iv looked back at my records. My alp has been way high since 2009. I am seeing my PCP Thursday and we will talk about this.

I talked to my counselor about the breaks I take from eating and drinking. I am getting a sports watch to set for every two hours to remind me to eat something. I am supposed to eat something and work on building positive relations with food.

Please enjoy your evening!

Best,

Sannah

Sannah...good luck on your nephrologist appointment today. Hope the news is you are doing ok and that this too shall pass (literally!) ....

I hope that sometime soon as you recover from this medical crisis, you are again able to enjoy food. In our pre-op life, for most of us, food was much more than nutrition, a friend of sorts and almost always a way to feel better as the feel good chemicals were released.

It has changed for most of us post-op but to different degrees. I still love to cook and enjoy my little meals, but it is less often I turn to food for comfort. There were times this made me somewhat melancholy....but over time, I have adjusted.

Finding those food items that are an easy go-to that you enjoy, becomes important during this transition. Even though mashed potatoes are high carb, I did enjoy them during the soft food stage with chicken gravy and canned chicken...very soft and warm. Sometimes I would microwave a sweet potato which is more nutritious, and just enjoy with a little pat of butter and a sprinkle of cajun spice. Thick Soups and chowder were easy to consume and filled me up.

For liquids, hot chai tea became a favorite and sugar free hot chocolate. For cold drinks, I love the MIO sweet tea, and plain Water, of course. I still have one Protein drink daily, but get the rest of my Protein from real food.

Start visualizing your healthy future sweetheart. I will be praying for you as well.

I am doing pretty good. Sitting at the doctor waiting for my 6 weeks check up. :)

I sure wish you were doing better. :( Hoping you get some answers/relief today! I am like everyone else, I wish they could do lithotripsy on you and blast them little suckers.

My husband had a horrible ordeal with kidney stones. He had them for 6 weeks. They did a stint. Then they tried to go in and get them a couple weeks later and failed. Finally he had lithotripsy and that gave him immediate relief. :(

How'd your check up go? Everything looking good?

Thank you. I wish I were better too!! Sounds like your hubby went through a terrible ordeal with his kidneys. Is he better nowadays? Develope any more stones? There has to be an end in sights for mine. After these stones are out I should be on my way to living freely. Not tied down by so much medical junk.

I had my 3 month physical therapy appointment. I have to get approved through the cardiologist to exercise. Last time he said walking is ok to do and lifting 3lbs. So I will call the cardiologist and get things approved hopefully. :) I was assigned four exercises, and I can do them only if approved. So fingers crossed.

I hope you are having an enjoyable day!!

Best

Sannah

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
