Pain Medication after Surgery

Recommended Posts

How do we get pain medicine to take home with us in Mexico? I went to a border town once to see a dentist while we were on vacation. When we went back across the border into Texas they asked us what we were bringing back from Mexico so I naturally told them about the pain medicine the Doctor gave me. They told me you cannot bring narcotics back with you even with a prescription. They let me keep the antibiotics but they confiscated the pain meds. So do we get pain meds to take home or do we have to see ourPCP when we get home?

I crossed into California and they let me take all the meds that the Mexican doc gave me including pain. I then went to Doc at home to get more meds as the pain meds from Mexico were only for a week.

Ok maybe its different when you have surgery. Then they know you aren't just there for the narcotics.

If it's packed in your luggage with your name on it I wouldn't make a point of mentioning it.

With my luck if I do that they will find it and I will wind up in a Mexican jail!!!!!

I do believe the pain meds you are sent home with from Mexico are considered non-narcotic..I've heard it's suprador (Tramadol)

Oh wow that is a very low grade pain medicine to receive after major surgery. Thats a little scary. I guess we can always go to our PCP if we need something stronger.

Believe it or not you really don't need anything stronger than this after the surgery. It's honestly not as sore as you think it's gonna be. Xxx

You'll be fine, the Suprador was fine for the pain, tylenol would have been fine too. It's mostly discomfort when you're moving or trying to get comfortable in bed for a few days.

I agree the pain was minimal, many people dont even use the pain meds. I only used it because I kept sleeping on the drain site, I am such a stomach sleeper.

Ididn't think it would hurt that bad until I watched an actual sleeve surgery on youtube. I should not have done that. I was in pain watching it!!

I haven't watched my surgery yet because I think I'd probably feel pain too :) Don't worry, it's really not a big deal.

Did they make a video of it? Did you get to see your stomach they cut out?

Yes my surgeon gives his patients a video of their surgery. I didn't see my stomach after the surgery if that's what you're asking.

That is cool. I would like to see a video of my surgery. I wonder if Dr. Garcia does that? I will have to ask.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
