Anyone had surgery and was alone afterwards.

Recommended Posts

I am going through this surgery alone. The couple family members I have live out of state and no is able to be here with me. I didn't want to postpone the surgery. I have purchased all my liquid foods' date=' Vitamins and Protein for a 3 week supply and placed everything by my bed. I am a little nervous as it seems everyone I know who had the surgery had someone with them. I recently moved out of state with my job and haven't met any friends here. I hope I am not putting myself at risk. I work from home so at least I don't have to worry about work and I can rest. Any advice or pointers to help me?[/quote']

Praying all goes well with your surgery if you were in Alabama we could do this thing together best of luck to u

Thanks Nursegrace, I do have a ride home but just no one to be at the house with me. Great idea I do have a recliner and a chaise lounge and now that I think about it that maybe a good place at times. I find myself sleeping on one of them and not in my bed many of nights lol

WOW Popsicle your story sounds like mine! It is times like these that I realize how alone I am in life. I did call a couple sitting agency and wasn't to successful with just arranging 24 hour care. Not sure if it was just my bad luck, I even tried a site called Care.com. I have the resources to pay someone. It was last minute notice I received the approval on the Jan 11 & insurance company required surgery on Jan 28. Everyone is aware I am having surgery.

You may have to confide in one or two of the people that know your having the surgery and ask if they would just be willing to call you everyday, see how you are making out. Being alone going through this surgery is certainly not the preferred method, but for some of us - it is what it is. I have had a very trying time personally, but I have been able to manage on my own - except the one time I had to get the endoscopy done and then God did for me what I couldn't do for myself, when I got a ride there and back. I don't know where you live, but if you were in Wash/MD area, I would give you a ride myself. I guess I just know how it feels in situations like this. They do have location specific forum's on this site, so maybe you can post in one in your local area to see if someone has any suggestions to offer. PS. Don't overbuy at the store, half the crap I bought I had to throw out, stick to the basics as outlined by your physician. I think you will be fine doing most things without assistance. Most of the 1st week you'll be sleeping more than anything else - at least I did, cause the pain meds really leveled me out. We are both new here so Good luck and I hope we can keep each other up to date on our progress. It will be fine.

I had a friend take me to the hospital and home again. I don't think you need to worry about being able to get around... they make you get up and walk a lot in the hospital! And walking is the best thing for you too.

I live alone and I was glad that I didn't have to be around other people eating at first.

I think you will be just fine!! :)

Thanks everyone. I had my surgery this morning I am in good spirits and mental strong. I been to move around, walked around my room and going to the restroom without much assistance. I'm comfortable and feeling well. I was able to get a private room which I love. The staff knew I was alone and the nurses have gone out of their way to make sure I don't feel alone. This forum has helped me and I'm glad I found it. Thanks again!!!

Glad everything went well. Keep us posted. I had a good day myself. Still struggling to get fluids/protein, but I actually was able to eat an egg (with a little pureed shrimp & cheese) for Breakfast. Little vomiting but most stayed. I had a whole Lean Cuisine meal and no problems. They say it gets better so I hope this is a sign of good things to come.

Someone post surgery should ALWAYS have contact with someone able to check in with you a few times a day once you are released from hospital. Even if it's via phone only.. Anything could happen that warrants urgent assistance

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
