How long did you take off work?

Recommended Posts

I have a desk job and took two weeks. I probably could have went back at one week as I had no pain from surgery but I was so tired for 3 weeks post op. Glad I took those two weeks to rest. Everyone is different though.

My dr said 4 to 6 wks.....my surgery was 12/21 and I go for my last follow up with the surgeon 1/28 so I should be released then to return to work.....so approx 5 and half wks off. I am sure it depends on what kind of work one does........but I couldn't going back to work for at least 3 and half to 4 wks at the earliest. My stomach was still very tender and my energy level was down......plus eating every 2 hrs......I honestly couldn't have gone back to work prior to 4 wks, so I am glad I am getting the time off I have.

I told my doc I wanted 4weeks off. The first 2weeks is to heal and the other 2 to start a workout routine. Like they say' date=' it takes 21days to create a habit and I am determined in creating good ones. Is a lifestyle change so make sure you give yourself time.[/quote']

Me too. I'm on my third week and I am cleared to workout. The first two weeks I was weak and dizzy. This week I am happy and motivated. I'd say 3weeks is satisfying. I'm taking one more just because I needed a mental health break haha. I'm a social worker.

I was sleeved on Thursday Jan 17 and I go back to work on Monday. So 11 days counting weekends. I work at home so I am sure I will be fine.

I took approximately 4 weeks. I work in HR too, so primarily desk job; though very high stress e.g. labor relations. I worked from home when I felt up to it, but like it's been said before - not everyone has that luxury. I've had a very hard time transitioning e.g. very weak, unable to take in food/fluids, endoscopic surgery last week because of inability to eat. I see my experience is little more extreme than others, but your body will tell you for sure.

I took 6 days off. Surgery was a Wednesday...off the rest of that week & the weekend. That Monday was a holiday. Went back the next day.

I was out for 3 days.

3 days? And you were good? My biggest worry is getting back to work. New (ish) job I worked very hard to get and I can't really take any time off. Im hoping to have surgery on a Thursday and return to work the following Tuesday. I know everyone is different but still it's encouraging to hear 3 days.

How are you feeling now? Is everything going smooth? I am schedule for surgery the 30th.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
