Self Payer question

Around how much was it to remove the band and then have the sleeve at the same time? Was it an outpatient procedure? I have insurance, but it doesn't cover WLS.

The doctor that did my band surgery quoted me $21k to do the revision. I'm in Orange County, CA so it's a bit pricier here. I was going ahead until I started researching Mexico. Selected an extremely highly certified surgeon and now doing it for less than half of that.

From what I've researched it's 1 - 2 days hospital. My dr is keeping me in hospital for 1 night then 4 nights local hotel for daily followup. Bit more followup than a non revision.

I didn't have the revision, but I was outpatient. Stupidest choice I've ever made in my life. About $520,000.

They are removing more than half a major organ. Stay in a hospital. Even for the most healthy of us, things can and do go wrong.

WOW and OMG are the words that come to mind! This is the type of thing that scares me when being a self payer

There are suplimental insurance policies that you can buy when you have it done in Mexico but I don't know about that in the US. If it's possible I'd get one. My complications weren't terribly rare. There are several others here that spent months in and out of hospital. If you have anything of value to lose some insurance might be a good investment.

I had my gall bladder removed when I had my band removal/sleeve surgery, so my insurance paid for that portion, which included the hospital stay for 2 days. I only had to pay $5000 for the sleeve portion of the surgery. This was 3 yrs ago with Dr. Wade Barker in Dallas.

I did go read through my insurance policy and discovered that emergency complications from non-covered procedures will be covered. Definitely research your policy! And, I have to thank these forums for reminding me to do so!

If I had had it done in one surgery, it would have been $15,000. I had to have it done in two because of the extensive damage done by the band. Removal was $5000, sleeve was $13,000.

Thanks everyone for your responses! Good to know some insurances covers the emergency part of things and I'll review to see if mine does cover it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
