George Bush: Worst American president in history

Sure it's a way to fatten it. I agree, and that would be wrong. but the jobs created by that fat makes it right.

Well if you fund the big business. Then by tax breaks they have more money. then they use some of that to bump up production or whatever thier business is. So then we have more jobs then we have more tax money coming in from the middle class. But if we did not have these tax breaks for big business then they would have to cut jobs. And then no jobs. and bigger national debt

I guess this would be why the statements 'stupid is as stupid does' and 'you just can't fix stupid' would be okay.... :faint:

Leatha.....I was the one who said you "just can't fix stupid" and it was NOT directed at you. Someone posted a story about a SIL who seriously believed we are at war with a country called "Iraqistan". Now, it's one thing to me mistaken, but when you dig in your heels and refuse to even look a the evidence (a map, in this case), what would you call that, if not "stupid"?

I'm about to post something I know you guys are going to love but it has to be said. the reason Clinton had so much of a surplus (in my opinion not a surplus. If there is still a national debt there is no surplus. But anyway) The reason is Because he was still running off 12 years of regeanomics.

when you support big business, by taxs breaks it causes more jobs because they have more capital and on goes the economy. And so goes our current economy.

Twelve years of Reaganomics? He was in office 8 years; where did the other 4 come from?

Nevertheless, one should remember that much of the deregulation of industry that made Reaganomics look good was actually initiated under Carter. So who's riding whose coattails?

In addition, unemployment was HUGE in 1982 and 83 - almost 10% of the labor force. Kind of shoots down your theory regarding the benefits of tax breaks for big business, huh?

Clinton's second term set a record for the nation's longest peacetime economic expansion. That would be long after any remnants of Reaganomics. After enormous deficits in the 1980s and early 90s - including a $290 billion deficit in 1992 - by 1998 we saw the first balanced budget since 1969. The stock market tripled in value and the country enjoyed the lowest unemployment rate in almost 30 years.

And I'm sure you remember what Bush Sr called Reaganomics....."voodoo economics". One of the few things the Bushes and I agree on.

I'm well aware it wasn't directed to me (although many of the same type have been). My point is that this type of disrespectful remark is made many times, in many threads about people who don't seem to buy into the liberal way of thinking.

So it's disrespectful to say "you just can't fix stupid" in response to a story posted about an anonymous sister-in-law? Is that what you're saying?

And the story had nothing to do with being Liberal or Conservative. Yes, the SIL happens to be a supporter of George Bush, but that was totally irrelevant to the story. I didn't say she was stupid for being pro-Bush. I said she was stupid for arguing with geography.

It's okay Carlene. Although the poor girl isn't even here to defend herself. I just think you look like someone who wouldn't need to put everyone else down in order to build yourself up.

I watch your posts. I believe you're a very smart, attractive woman as well as others here. It's the caustic superiority that makes me cringe. I can disagree with you without having to call you stupid or ignorant or uneducated or any of the other names that keep coming up. Please don't think it's just you that I'm singling out either, you often refrain and I can see it when you do. It just seems contagious. When one does it, the others seem to follow.

I'm sure I'll get ridiculed (once again) for speaking up, but I know I'm not the only one who sees it this way.

Leatha...

The last thing I would deliberately do is ridicule you for taking part in one of these discussions. Although it's hard sometimes for people like me (who are passionate and frank and just plain argumentative by nature) to pull in our claws when we feel challenged.

I like the give-and-take that goes on in R&R. I enjoy the verbal and mental sparring. But I don't call LBT members names. I call George Bush names. I do....I admit it. But he's a public figure and that just goes with the territory. And I think he can handle it, don't you? He's probably been called a lot worse.

As for building myself up at someone else's expense, I don't have self-esteem issues. Lots of other issues, yes. But not self-esteem. And you have no idea how many times I have had to bite my tongue (or would that be fingers) in order NOT to humiliate another poster, just because I could. If you really do watch my posts, you know that I've never gotten really nasty unless I was seriously provoked. And even then, I think I have shown admirable restraint sometimes.

But back to the young woman who inspired this whole discussion. True, she isn't here to "defend herself", but I'm not sure there is a defense for her position. Although I wouldn't have said anything about her being stupid if she had been here, I still say that if you are so closed-minded that you won't accept a world map as evidence, then you might have a lot in common with a doorknob.

I am here, but my cousin wouldn't come near a thread with this title... well, ever - for anything.

Since I am the person who 'introduced' you all to my stupid cousin, I could hardly take exception to any of you drawing the same conclusion. I've tried to fix stupid, and it just isn't happening.

I am thrilled that I haven't been getting hate mails for my 'cut & paste', but saddened by the incredibly lame attempt to defend 'trickle-down economics'. Reagan? Seriously?

...if we make the rich, richer, wait, make that A LOT richer - maybe they might share a little bit with the middle and lower classes when they feel like it... Brilliant! Now that is good government! <- sarcasm, 396

Carlene, BJean & Green - Thanks for the kudos, I've enjoyed the heck out of many a post written by you fine ladies. I especially love the pro-socialist atmosphere I see reflected in some of Green's posts. Great work!

Is it just me or does anyone else think it's funny that at the top of the page there is a link titled "Are you Stupid" and another titled "US War in Iraq". I don't know if those links are specific to the reader or if they appear based on the content in the thread but it seems funny to me.

I think I'm going to find out if I'm stupid first just in case.

I have 'Tool ring-tones', I think they meant cool - can you imagine having your phone pop off with 'cordless drill' or 'reciprocating saw'?

I also have ads for John McCain and one for our illustrious shrub. Pretty sure that the ads are chosen by keywords. Shame, I wanted to find out if I was stupid, too.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
