I am 57 Eatthatfrog. I think it is more surgery trauma than age. Because they get us up the day of the surgery a lot people forget that it is still.major. I missed being able to close my eyes whenever I wanted to. No I do 1/2 coffee in the morn

I guess it depends on the person and their prior health situation. I was off for six weeks' date=' I also had FMLA and was paid at 100%. I was trying to focus on me and my new life changes, so that's why it took me so long.[/quote']

I'm planning my surgery jan 23 2013 and I was told it about 4 to 6 weeks to get in tune with my new life

I was taken out for 4 weeks... From my understanding it all depends on what type of job you have and your healing. I don't have a desk job so I am not able to do my job yet..and I do a lot of driving, stairs, and getting up and down from floor so I def am not ready..

I could have used fmla but didn't. I had surgery on Tuesday and went back to work on Thursday. Thursday wasn't great, Friday was much better. I was out and about on the second day. I also have a sedentary job. I was on vaca for a week following that so I have some time to adjust to the new way of eating.

I'm currently trying to plan out my next few month which will hopefully include my gastric sleeve surgery. As a project-based freelancer' date=' I have the challenge of trying to find an appropriate time for surgery & recovery that will gel with my current & future projects.

One thing that I'm trying to figure out is how much time I should truly block off for recovery. My doctor says I should be able to go back to work in 7-10 days since I have an office-based job (little physical activity necessary).

In your experiences, what is realistic when it comes to recovery time?[/quote']

I was sleeved the 18 I just started a new semester today.. I felt sick .. I missed home.. Hours later I felt better

I had surgery on Monday, discharged on Tuesday, worked from home Thursday, and was in the office on Friday. I didn't need painkillers once I got home, so I didn't need to worry about that. I have a desk job and I'm 34, in good health.

I was off 8 weeks. my job requires lifting 50 lbs. There is no way that was happening before 8 weeks. It took awhile to regain my stamina. It took a full 6 weeks for me to feel normal. Everyone is different.... Best wishes with your surgery.

A week later. I know what you guys are saying 'You're crazy...' I am a contractor. I don't get paid if I don't work. I felt fine. I carry a bag with me everyday with Protein, Vitamins, MIO for my Water and now soft foods. I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and I feel great. The first 3 weeks, before food, I can admit, after work an picking up kids and homework, I feel asleep quickly and was always tired.

I am a single mom of 16 months old twins.. How did you manage?

Honestly had a lot of help from my neighbors and friends but when it came down to it I really didn't need it because I was Mobile. i was able to move around and it was okay so if you don't have any help I think you'll still be fine um by the time I got home on day 4 I was okay. incisions a little sore.

explain to them your mom is getting surgery go about your everyday normal activity as your body allows you to but I feel as though you will be okay my c section was nothing compared to this congratulations and good luck!!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
