Post-Op update12/28 - Restrictiveness question

Recommended Posts

My surgery was 12/28/12 and everything went exceptionally well so far. I was in a lot of pain when I woke up from anesthesia, but other than that I was fairly comfortable in the hospital. I got up a few hours after surgery. I could use the restroom by myself. I’m on day 8 now, and besides getting tired very easily and not being able to bend down or twist, I’m doing great.

Of course my mind always has to worry about something… I feel like I might be doing too well. I haven’t gotten sick off of anything yet. I started my full liquid diet and everything does down without a problem. I still can't really tell when I'm hungry or full yet. I’m kinda worried that this surgery might not be restrictive enough. Of course I haven’t tried to gulp down a bottle of Water or eat a full bowl of cream of wheat, but I’m a little concerned that I haven’t had any bad consequences yet. Was your recovery this easy as far as not being very restrictive? Did you feel more restricted when you started eating solid foods?

Thanks for your time,

Christie

I can't tell you the number of people who ask this. Whle on liquids most feel no restriction. Once you start purée and even more so when you start soft foods. No worries you will fill restrictions.

I never felt restrictions until I started on the pureed/soft foods (more so on soft). :)

I thought I was the only one like this. I can't tell if I'm hungry or full. I am 5 days post op. Drinking, swallowing pills, walking, hardly any pain..I can't believe I just had surgery.

Hi Tina,

My surgery was on 12/21 and it has been so easy - no pain, no nausea

(except right after surgery because of anesthesia), no problems drinking, etc....I was worried about restrictiveness down the road too.

Well, today I was reassured that I will have very adequate restriction. I thought I'd try a very very soft boiled egg....I left it in too long -- it came out like a soft hard boiled egg... I think no big deal.... I take 2 or 3 small quick bites off a demitasse spoon (forgetting to go slow) and WOW... almost immediately I felt like I was having a heart attack. And I'm not exaggerating. It was painful and very scary. I just kept walking around not knowing what to do and trying to control my semi-panic feeling. Finally I heaved it up and felt relief immediately.

I'm definitely not worrying about restrictiveness anymore.....I'm sure you'll be the same. Everybody here on VST reassured me that I would feel it once I started on actual food instead of liquids....and they were right!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
