Medical Tag/Bracelet Curiosity

Recommended Posts

I haven't been sleeved yet, but I am wondering how many of you have actually gotten the id Bracelet or tag and what did you put on it?

Thanks

I did. I put VSGastrectomy, no blind NG tube and my ICE #. I don't think alot of people wear them, but I'm not taking any chances. I wore a diabetes Bracelet before that, so it's no different. I got a nice bracelet looking one from Lauren's Hope. They're kind of pricey for the bracelets but they look like regular jewelry.

Hi,

There was another thread in regards to the same thing I pasted the link below so you are able to see others responses as well :). It seems to be a personal preference.

I was looking into a Medical Bracelet and this is what my Dr. had said.

A blind nasograstric tube can maybe harm a small pouch in a gastric Bypass, since you have a VSG a NSG tube will pass and maybe stay long enough before it can harm you (you have a 3 line stapling and a prolene suture above the staples, so the tube wont penetrate your sleeve it would stay but wont fit al the tube long). NSAID's can be a NO NO after the surgery, they cause gastric irritation and discomfort, they wont put you in any danger if an emergency would appear, neither the aspirin, you will need to take them for some time to really cause you the trouble, if you have an inflammatory process or some articular pain, a couple of days of ibuprofen wont kill you if you take the measures needed, like taking prilosec before administrating the pill or just taking the pill followed by some ingestion of food.

I still think a bracelet noting I had VSG would be a good idea, along with no Blind NG Tube. I originally was going to place no NSAIDS and No Aspirin but from what my doctor said I may just place a note saying a small amount or just leave it off because I would rather have either of them in a life or death situation rather then just death because they seen I wasnt supposed to have it. Just thought I'd share :)

Thanks AngelEyesInNJ. I actually saw that post. I was still wondering if many actually wear these medical bracelets/tags or is it kept in a drawer somewhere hoping to be worn

I've also read that people have worn them and they were overlooked by the medics. Is it because they tend to look like jewelry as oppose to the "classic" medical id bracelets?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
