I'm in KC. Sleeved 12/3 by Dr. Hoehn. My only regret is that I didn't do this 10 years ago!

I am from SE KS. Going to Tallgrass since my insurance requires a center of excellence. My seminar is on 4/12. I don't know what to expect after that. I'll have my six months of Dr supervised diet done on May 19th.

I'm going to Malley too! How are you doing now? I looked you up and saw that you had it about a month ago. I just got insurance approval today! ;-)

When is your surgery? Mine was 3/10. I went through the motions the first 3 weeks. Suddenly week 4 I had energy. I was just on a stall and stayed the same weight for two weeks and was worried but yesterday and today the scale has moved. My best advice that even I need to follow is give it time and you will so great!!

I am calling the office tomorrow to schedule my date. I'm hoping to do it this month if possible. If not then early May! I have a trip that I have to take on May 7th for a one day meeting for work and I'm not sure about scheduling my surgery date for that week.

I live near Topeka and had my surgery at Tallgrass on April 1, 2014. Received great care and had little pain. Surgery on a Tuesday and back to work on Monday. First month weight came off quickly but has slowed drastically which is very disappointing. Trying to focus on exercising more and getting my Water in....which is very hard to do.

I was sleeved in October of 2013 by Dr. Selim at KU. Best decision I've ever made!

A lot of posts on here are over a year old--if anyone still comes here--just want you to know I'm going thru the KC Bariatric Center (Dr. Aragon who works in the same office with Dr. Hoehn and Hamilton), in Lenexa, KS. I live about 20 miles from the Shawnee Mission Pavilion where the KC Bariatric Center is. I have a 4 November 2014 Gastric Sleeve surgery date. I went to their Support Group for the first time yesterday afternoon. What a blessing!! We got handouts from the Physical Therapy Dept as well as exercise bands and did a few repetitions of the exercises on the handouts. After the exercise portion, we broke into small circles by type of surgery, and I learned so much from the other Sleevers that eased a lot of anxieties and worries. I was amazed by some of the people's stories, just like on this site. It was good to hear their success stories up close and face-to-face. The Center also has a clothing exchange at the Support Group, so people can get reduced size clothes donated by people who have lost weight. I liked this part, because once I get my weight down, I know some good clothes will go to good use. Any excess clothes not used after a certain period of time at the Center gets donated by them to local charities. I am so excited to soon be smaller and healthier!

I am in Kansas, and hope to have Dr Hoehn do my sleeve. I went to the seminar 2 weeks ago. What made me laugh, was how nearly everyone was so concerned with when can the start smoking again! REALLY?! You're having surgery to become healthy and you want to still smoke? Anyway...right now I don't have the insurance for the surgery. My hubs insurance excludes it, so open enrollment at my job is next week, and they cover it. So, I will take out insurance with them, and hopefully after January 1, start the qualifying process. Maybe I'll see you there at a meeting. I'll put a photo of my up on here as soon as I have one that isn't all chins! lol Here's to a healthier new year!!

I'm in KCK. Really close to the Pavillion. I live right off K7. Really praying the hoops I've gone through in the last couple of months will help me qualify sooner. still having issues with the hubs accepting this. Every time he sees how much I'm going to be paying for health insurance he tells me to just go back to WW. Yep! That really helped me the last 3 times I went there. They may be one of the reasons why I'm considering the surgery. So many diets in my life destroyed any metabolism I had in my body. Tonight he got home from work upset I didn't make dinner, so he says "lets go out to a buffet" I say no, we have food in the house. So he is moping. then he says "you really are bigger than you've ever been". Way to make a girls weekend. :P

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
