Roll Call for the July 2012 Sleevers! "5 Months Surgiversary"

Recommended Posts

Hello I just joined this site. I was sleeved on July 23 2012. My start weight was 382 and my weight as of this morning ( we all become obsessed with the scale!) is 262.7. I am always eager to talk to others that have had the sleeve as well. I am taking my Biotin because my hair did start to fall out. I am starting to work out more since I don't want to stall. I find meat' date=' beef and pork heavy, does anyone else? I stay away from the meat because I feel like I swallowed a brick lol. I started eating more fish and tofu to get the Protein in. I am awful with the Protein shakes but I try in other ways. I am so happy to see so many great results post sleeve and most important so many people happy with the life changing experience![/quote']

That is great progress on the weight loss from July. Good job!

Had surgery 7/17 and down total 75#...mostly lose about 12-14# month steady except last 2 months due to bad fall and cracked tailbone (ouch). I'm on the mend and back to exercise program. Still no hunger and do well most days to get everything in...fluids are my BIG problem.

I feel like a NEW person - so much energy and in such a better mood (according to my kids - lol). I'm glad to see everyone doing well - so close to onderland!!!

Wishing everyone continued success!!

Hi Nicole,

Pain started bottom of right rib cage. As time passed it got worse. On Christmas Eve I was in so much pain I called my dr. The pain had radiated to my right shoulder blade in my back.

Two days ago I had an abdominal ultrasound. Results today was cholesterol gallstones. I was told not to eat anything with fat. From what I'm learning from my experience this is common with rapid weightloss.

Wishing you great results on your test.

gallbladder info.. i had mine removed long before my sleeve .. it has not affected me in any way ... yes get it removed the severe pain was so unbearable morfin didn't make it go away.. and it will not fix itself only gets worse over time so best results is to remove .. and really didn't change anything just have to avoid greasy food which is a good thing anyway.. did cause runs in the beginning right after having it removed due to grease or fat but body adjusted itself to the missing organ.. in my opiono won't affect your sleeve

Thank you very much for the info. I appreciate hearing experience from others. Yes I will have it removed. I've had my fair share of kidney stones as well. Gallstones do not surprise me. My body was rapidly deteriorating before I got the sleeve.

Now I'm seeing the damage from overweight.

Hello everyone! Congrats to us all for changing our lives. I was sleeved on July 3rd and on surgery day I weighted 246lbs I now weight 160lbs. I can maybe eat 4 oz. a day but I also workout 3-4 times a week. I'm trying to get more food in but can't seem to do it. I get full really fast. I'm eating slow but still get full fast. I eat my Protein first always then some fruit, but always just bites. I hope everything is ok with me, I feel awesome too and look great. Plus, my husband is enjoying the new energy I have. Life's great!

Hello,

I am the same way! I refuse to get sick or vomit so when my body says "we are full" I push the plate away even if its two spoonfuls. I think a big part is knowing your body and knowing your limits and not pushing them. Great work!

Hello Snow,

I think thats why my doctor wanted the tests done because of the rapid weight loss. Knock on wood, I haven't experienced any pain. Rather be safe then sorry. I will keep you posted.

Wishing you great results on your test.

I am 44 years old and I WAS a sugar addict! No more though. I am six months out and have lost 73 lbs. My highest weight was 244.7 lbs. I am now 171. I have been a slow user but I have been continually losing and Im very proud at what I hv lost. Im not going to complain because others lose quicker. Very proud of ALL of you and the loss. Its very exciting.

I have went from a size 22-24 pants to now in a 16 that are baggy. Whoohoo. I also went from a 3x shirt to a medium shirt size and sometimes large...depends on the shirt. I feel so much better and healthier. I can get in the floor and play with my grandson now. I feel confident I will lose the rest.

Don't get discouraged if you feel you're a slow user. It will come off!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
