Wait Time In Canada?

Recommended Posts

Have any of the Canadians here looked in to having the surgery in Canada? If so, what was the estimated wait times? I'm assuming the Canadians going to Mexico are mostly because of the long wait times.

I had a feeling it was along those lines. But just wanted to make sure. I don't want to wait 3 more months.. definitely not 3 years!! :)

In Alberta it's just over a year (15 months according to a friend who had it here) but there are also so many hoops to jump a well. It seems that part might be the same in the US. Mexico didn't have hoops, that's why I went there.

10 years!! wow! Gotta love free health care! :) I'm just in the process of booking a surgery for around January in Mexico, and thought I should double check the wait times in Canada first to make sure I wasn't travelling and paying for something when I didn't have to. But I don't want to wait years.

7 year wait in BC. Your bmi has to be over 40 too and have 2 co morbidities. Mine was 35, and I couldn't wait that long. I went to TJ in october, best thing I ever did.

When I was inquiring about the wait time in ab they told me that 50 were done in Calgary last year so if you didn't have 2 commordities and a high bmi you could wait 4 yrs or longer. I'm going to TJ on Monday:)

I don't have any major health problems other than being over weight, so I have a feeling I'd be bottom of the list. Thanks for the info!

Good luck btw! What surgeon did you chose?

Wait times in BC are surgeon dependent & patient driven. I found out my surgeons criteria ( 10% wt loss, BMI,food diary etc) and I chose a surgeon who wouldn't put you on the wait list until you meet his criteria . From that time, I was less than 6 months. MSP paid fully.

10 years! Wow, last year I looked into it and it was 3 years, it's gone up 7 years in less than a year?

I booked it in Mexico because I figured I'd save the price of the surgery over the next 3 years just by not eating junk food and fast food all the time. Plus I'll have the benefits of the surgery now instead of then. And I didn't have to jump through any hoops, I contacted my coordinator, and I could have had surgery the next week if I wanted to (I had to wait 3 weeks to get affordable flights).

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
