Endoscopy: What Should I Expect?

Recommended Posts

I've never had one. Can some of you tell me, step by step, what to expect? What will they do? What will I feel? How do I prepare?

For me, I was put to sleep so it was easy! LOL.

Seriously, they would either put you to sleep or give you something to really relax you. Here is my experience:

I was placed in a super cool johnny and wheeled into endo. room. They put me to sleep for about 10 minutes (it's not a long procedure) and when I woke up, they were done! I did not have any pain, discomfort or a sore throat after - I was just groggy from the propophol for a few hours.

The anticipation of it was the worst part. You will do just fine!

Well, I've had at least a dozen of them... Most of them I was put under & only one of them I was awake for. So, if you're put under, you can expect they will prep you (gown, IV, etc), when you wake you may have a little bit of sore throat but that's about it. The one I had when I was awake (not the route you wanna go if it can be helped) but, I was at Dr's office. They give you some meds to help relax you, spray some throat spray to the back of your throat, put a bite tube in your mouth & then instruct you when to swallow as they guide the tube down your throat & into the stomach. My preference is to be asleep but some Dr's prefer to do it in their office. Either way, I'm sure you will do fine. Best of luck & all will go well.

I agree with Lizzy. The thought of the procedure by far was the worst part of it. My experience was the same.

Good luck!

IV being put into hand hurt me terribly. I didnt feel anything else until I woke up then I was in bad pain due to the GAS.. Everything else was minor. Oh and the itching from the when they start healing LOL That drove me crazy for a few days about 3 weeks post op..

Diana, are you referring to your sleeve surgery?

I detailed my experience in a topic here at VSTalk. I also published the same exact recount on my blog here:

Prepare: You have to fast. Show up with your ID and insurance card and payment.

The rest was easy. Dianna is referring to gas from the EGD itself, as they apparently push air into your stomach in order to get a good view (I imagine it's hard to see if everything's all stuck together!). I didn't have any gas issues at all, which is unusual for me! :D:P

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
