Am I The Only One Who Started To Hate The Taste Of Water?

Recommended Posts

Right after the surgery i started to feel like I can't stand to drink Water, every time I do it makes me gag and I have to choke it down.

I thought it was because of my new stomach and it will get better when i stop sipping.

Three days after the surgery i could drink more water than before but if i drink warm water or water that is sitting out of the freezer i feel like i will throw up also my stomach hurts for a while after.

The only way i found that i can drink water is if it was freezing cold!!! But am afraid that the freezing cold water is not good for my stomach... Can someone tell me if it was ok drinking ice cold water???

It's the only way i will have my water in!! please no one tell me to try crystal lite instead because the sickeningly sweet after taste of fake sugar makes me want to drink warm water LMAO :P

Is cold water bad for me? (i do sometimes feel the cold water as it goes down my chest and into my stomach but no pain just a bit of discomfort) :(

I was the same way with Water. I think a lot of us couldn't tolerate water right after surgery. I was the complete opposite room temperature drinks felt better for me. I'm not sure why it's so hard to drink water, but I must say one day, about a week or a week and a half out, suddenly I could drink water perfectly fine, no matter what the temp was. I don't think ice cold water is bad for you. I drank my tea ice cold in the beginning.

I am almost 3 months post op and just now can I start drinking plain Water without feeling nausea.

Crystal light and SF kool aid DID help, though only the fruit punch flavor and half diluted. :)

Very normal...I couldn't drink plain Water for months, and I loved water before surgery. I can drink it just fine now.

Yes, you can drink water cold. Whatever works for you is fine, I also liked my drinks very cold after surgery. You could try adding some lemon or lime to the water that might help. You could also add just a tiny bit of crystal light or MIO to the water and see if it helps. It will get better!

Yes, me too. Pre surgery I liked room temp Water, but now it goes down much better cold. I keep refilling my drink bottle with ice cubes. I don't imagine it can hurt anything.

yep , your not the only one, but with me I have always hated Water unless it was a very hot day and the water was ice cold, any other time the water had to be mixed with anything that would flavor my wife always got on me be cause I could always drink my calories and probly is one of the reasons that i have had to had the sleeve now I am 4 weeks post op and am drinking watered down juice "grape" and orange" I tried to drink strawberry banana V8 fusion but that did not taste right to me and i could not keep it down. I don't do cyrstal light but i can do the wal mart generic brand of the stuff.

I've been mixing half Water, half G2 Gatorade. It comes out to about 15 calories per 12 oz, which is worth it to me, since plain water is also gross to me now. It makes me sad, because water is what I drank 90% of the time pre-surgery. I also have NO taste for coffee, and I used to be a coffee drinker through and through!

I thought it was just me. I have had this problem ever since surgery. The only time I can drink plain Water is first thing in the morning and it has to be ice cold. Otherwise I am using Crystal light Rasberry lemon flavor or just lemon and it goes down fine. I always have them in my purse my car on my desk everywhere.

There are some flavor enhancers called Mio. There are several flavors, mine is the fruit punch. No calories, it really helps me. I find them at all the stores now.

Second on Mio. The only one I've tried I didn't care for was Tangerine. fruit punch is probably my favorite. Sam's Club sells a 3-pack, but most grocery/retail outlets have it. Made by Kraft, so good distribution.

my doc warned me it was a known side affect , people dont like the taste of it, when I told him I prefer it right now (6 days post op ) he said " Be warned you might not like it after a while " So he told me i could dilute 25% juice to 75% Water since i cant do anything with artifical sweetners like MIO or cyrstal light.

Me, too. I was fine with Water immediately post-op but now, at three months out, it just tastes yucky. I'm also having problems enjoying ice tea, which was my absolute favorite drink before. I've been drinking some Vitamin Water Zero which seems to be working pretty well. Crystal Lite and Mio are kind of too sweet for me. I hope this eventually changes.

I am getting a little tired of the Mio after taste. Instead, I have started to drink powered propel flavors. It is pretty good and does not leave me with the after taste. I buy mine at target. Not liking plain Water, I mix all Water with a flavor. Maybe someday plain water will be good tasting again.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
