Totally Bummed But Not Discouraged

Recommended Posts

Finally everything was falling in place for me to be able to send my papers in to start my VSG proceedures. I was getting excited for that first meeting with the surgeon but first I had an appointment with my cardiologist. At first I had my EKG and the tech looked at it, excused herself then came back a little later. The doctor came in and I was telling him that I was planning on VGS surgery. He shook his head and said, "Let's see what is going on here first."

I do have Afib and lately have been getting more out of breathe. It is hard for me to walk 10-15 feet sometimes without stopping to catch my breathe. Now we are looking at echocardiograms and stress test for just a start.

It all started because I need a hysterectomy but the doctor won't do one until I loose 100 lbs. Can't loose 100 lbs without the VGS surgery but can't have that until we figure out my heart. I'm bummed but I'm not giving up. It seems like God had been leading me this way so it it is His will it will happen!

Deb

This journey for some of us takes on a path that is unexpected. But then, all things happen for a reason, Deb. I am sorry the road has taken this turn, but of course, you need a good ticker before anything else can be taken care of. Start with your heart. Without it, a VSG and a hysterectomy won't do you any good. One step and one day at a time! Keeping you in my prayers!

Deb... do not give up. It was nearly a two year ordeal with me have to go through insurance denial, getting different insurance, trying again... going to through weight loss classes, etc. I'm sure your doctors are trying to do whats best for you.

Keep pushing.... don't let anything or anyone stop you.

You can do it...we're all pushing for you!!!

Go get em~

Nothing is worth having if it's easy. You might not have an easy path but it will make the reward that much sweeter. Good Luck:)

Did they say what caused the afib was it an electrical short??? If so this can be contolled with beta blockers or easy peasy surgery that require ablation of the current that is shorting. 1 day recovery....

Oh I have no intention of giving up. I was just bummed. My pop used to say all things in God's time and not yours so you had better learn to wait. Then again all good things are worth waiting for.

I got Afib about five years ago. Went to the hospital thinking I was having a heart attack. Missed that one but they found a kidney infection that wasn't showing up normal. Somehow they figured that triggered the irregular beat. I am on meds but I never really get into a regular rythm. Doctor back then said something about shocking my heart but they never did anything more. They mentioned a pacemaker but my heartbeat is extra fast not to slow so that ended that. We will see what this new doctor has to say. Hopefully, I will still be able to get my paperwork in before the end of the year. Since I will be self pay I don't think I will have to jump through to many hoops.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
