I weighted today & I'm 1 pound away from losing 40 lbs pre-op which is awesome don't get me wrong but I still have some time until my surgery date & 20 lbs to lose to disqualify myself for surgery. I have lost this much before just to gain it all back. I'm worried that I will lose to much weight during my 2 week pre op diet (which is still just a little under a month from now) and not be able to have the surgery. The thought has crossed my mind just to go eat out & take care of the problem but I think that would be counter productive & I will start old habits I have tried very hard to brake the last several months. My question to everyone is this how crazy is it i want to keep weight on so I can have surgery? I'm just so tired of this battle with my weight, I've been on a diet since I was 10 years old.

Weigh yourself daily and if you need to add calories to maintain weight towards the end add extra Protein Shakes or healthy calories so you don't slip into bad habits. Add calories in that are things like you will be eating after surgery. You can do this!

I would be careful with how much you do lose. If you lose too much, they will cancel the surgery. I had that experience but when they realized that I had a comorbidity, I was approved. The doc did tell me not to lose anymore weight until the surgery. It was quite crazy making. :)

Talk to your doctor's office. Different insurance plans have different requirements. Yours may only require that your BMI be over X number at the initial visit, then not care if you drop below that BMI preop. You might try adding in some weight training. That way you can convert some fat to muscle, yet keep your weight over the limit.

Thanks y'all. I just got a little nervous when I seen that number this morning. I guess I'll be increasing my calories.

Most doctors submit your weight from the day you first came in at your highest to the insurance companies. A doctor would be insane to cancel your surgery just because you are losing weight! That is the whole purpose.. The more you lose the easier your surgery will be! the surgery will prevent you from gaining it back.. Let's face it most of us can lose a thousand pounds, it's the keeping it off we seem to fail at..Hang in there you are doing great!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
