Hey.. My name is Jody.. I just came home from Puerto Vallarta Mexico... My surgery date was August 27th.. My doctor was Dr. Amando Joya... I had a very good experience.. I have literally had hardly any pain.. It was almost like being on vacation.. I was scared at first.. But once I got there (i brought my best friend with me).. i was relieved.. It was beautiful and the doctor and staff were awesome.. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.. I choose Mexico because i was a self pay patient.. and the states were above my budget.. My Normal doctor is handling my after care and labs.. And I feel that is was the best choice for me!!

You can go to drjoya.com.. and let me tell you.. everything you see there is true.. I will have to post some of my pics from the trip!!!

I had surgery on 8/31 with Dr Aceves in Mexicali. It was a great experience. The hospital was cleaner than most I've been to in the Las Vegas area, and I work in hospitals for a living. Every time I took a lap I had to walk around a cleaning person, day or night. I was picked up by a driver at the San Diego Airport and drove about 2 hours to Mexicali and the hospital. The hospital itself is less than one mile from the border. The staff was AMAZING!!! I don't speak much Spanish, but most spoke some English and I used the cheat sheet to ask for a shower. They have to tape a latex glove around your wrist to cover the iv.

The website for Dr Aceves is http://mexicalibariatric.com/draceves.html. He has performed more than 1500 sleeves, 6000 WLS procedures. His assistant Dr Campos was sleeved by Dr Aceves and looks amazing. It was $8750, but worth every single penny to me. I had no pain the entire time, he and his surgical team came every day to check on me, and I stayed in the hospital until time to go home. Loved that hospital bed! I really missed the convenience when I came home to my own, If I can answer any other questions, feel free to ask here or PM me. I could have has the surgery a couple months ago with a cheaper surgeon, but I'm glad I waited to have enough $ for Dr Aceves.I can't recommend him and his staff enough.

I had surgery in Tijuanna, MX with Dr. Rodriguez through BeLiteWeight.com. Dr. Rod is a very experienced and highly rated. His patients have a very low rate of complications and he has never had a leak or a mortality.

I paid around $8,000, Belite financed me, and they took care of all of the details and kept me company. My trip to MX was wonderful! The hospital was beautiful, clean and pleasant. The doctors and nurses took better care of me than I have ever experienced in the states, and I have had many surgeries throughout my life. The worst part was flying, but I hate flying when I feel good. I also traveled alone.

I'm planning a triumphant return to Mexico this spring, at goal weight, for my Tummy Tuck. It was such a good experience that I will be headed that way whenever I need something that my insurance won't cover from now on.

I've had some scary experiences in US hospitals with poor care, dirty conditions, and mistakes. I'm 100% positive that going to Mexico is not more dangerous than the US!

I had my surgery with Dr. Garcia on 8/31/2012. I had a pleasant experience, and I went alone.I woke up virtually pain free, and had no nausea, within 2 hours I was walking in the halls. There was a special price of $4700 in august but i think it is normally $5000. I went thru Ready 4A change. They were great, but i would probably recommend going thru A Lighter me. They were truly awesome. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Good Luck and Best Wishes,

Sheree

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
