Hi all!

I was sleeved on 9/4. I have had horrible nausea and dry heaves ever since. Mostly after trying to "eat" something or being up on my feet - like after a walk. I am on meds for it. All the docs said its normal. But its painful and kind of scary. Can't I pull stitches if I heave too much? Anyone else have this? How long did it take to go away?

Any words of wisdom or encouragement are appreciated!

Shelley

Your doc needs to give you something for the nausea. I was given Zofran (i think) via IV when I having dry heaves the day of and after surgery. It is a normal reaction to the anesthesia/pain meds, but it isn't good for you to heave or wretch for days and days. One of the provisions of being released was that nausea was controlled.

I hope you feel better very soon.

Edit: I completely missed where you said you're on meds for it. Sorry! Ignore me! :-)

Yes, I experienced it too. I felt VERY nausaus for about the first 2 weeks.

Be aware that you MAY need a PPI like Omiprozol or Nexium, MOST of the acid pumps (proton pumps) are cut away with the lower stomach but the poor small section of stomach that is left is so swollen and traumatized what few pumps are left may STILL produce too much acid for the small space. Check with the doc before just getting something like OTC Prilosec. After a while the swelling goes down and the acid situation usually takes care of itself.

I was also sleeved 9/4, but I haven't had too much nausea. Just in the hospital mostly. I did have some tonight, but I was very exhausted, we went to the mall to walk (it was 106° outside), and I think it really wore me out! I came home & slept 2 hours, woke up bc I was thirsty, and all the sudden got über nauseous. I feel better now that I am drinking again, maybe it was bc I had been drinking all day (water & crystal light), and stopped so suddenly? I hope it goes away!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
