So, Today I Found Out That...

Recommended Posts

I have a hiatal hernia.

I had my upper scope done and the Dr found it. He said he would repair it during my vsg surgery.

Have any of you ever had this?

I heard that it makes recovery a little more painful or difficult... just trying to hear from people who have lived it before me. Thanks in advance!!! :)

My surgeon found mine during surgery and fixed it. I didn't even know I had it. It didn't make my recovery more painful or difficult at all.

I had a hiatal hernia and I was fine. I was back to work in seven days and I didn't think my recovery was bad at all...

I had a hernia repaired too; didn't know I had one. Recovery was easy peasy. I imagine if the hernia is bigger (you'd know if you had one probably), it may affect recovery a little more.

Mine was pretty significant and I managed to have a speedy recovery. I pray the same for you!

I just found out today, but he said it was of significant size...the only thing I knew was that I have had horrible reflux for years.

Thanks for sharing with me! :)

Yup, didn't know I had one. Dr repaired it for me. I, too, had horrible reflux for years. I haven't had to take a PPI since my surgery, BTW. Swallowing was probably a little more difficult for a couple extra days, but that is about it.

It was definitely an added bonus.

I had also acid reflux as well...the worse was when it would happen in my sleep and wake me up. I especially hated if it came thru my nose.

It's great that you don't have to take the meds for it anymore. I'm looking forward to that, for sure!

Thank you so much for telling me about your experience. It's nice to know I'm not the only one going through this and that a lot of people have had what I do and are willing to say a few words to reassure me... I love this forum!

Ugh!! That's the worst, isn't it? Nothing like waking up to that massive whole head burning sensation.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
