I was sleeves 6/18. As of this morning I am 66 pounds down. I have not cheated. I haven't even craved a cup cake which was my all time fave before surgery. The only thing I crave now is cherry tomatoes. Which I strange to me since pre-surgery, I hated anything related to the Tomato.

Before surgery I had a medium moha iced coffee with skin milk from Dunkin donuts every morning. 2 or 3 on the weekends. Even with snow on the ground. (I hate eating or drinking anything hot). I haven't had once since before my pre-op diet. I tried everything I could. I went to Starbucks and got suar free Syrup instead. No chocolate but I tried every other flavor tht was sugar free. It didn't do it for me. I bought sugar free Hershey's syrup. It tasted pretty good. I couldn't tell it as that free. U ordered an iced coffee with skin milk and put my own syrup in. The syrup clumped and tasted terrible. So I gave up on coffee. I've given it up for lent and I didn't die so I'll live.

Until today. I couldn't resist. I went to get gas and the coffee was calling me. Taunting me. I gave in. But I got a small. It tasted as good as I remember if not better. I only drank half of it because I guess it was too much for my tummy. But it was soooo yummerific.

My question is, is it so bad to have it once in a while if I am doing everything else I am supposed to do to the letter? I don't want it every day. It would be a waste because I'm not going to finish it. But once a week or once every other week? Is that too much sugar that I shouldn't have?

I see my nutritionist on Wednesday so unfounded to ask her as well. But I'd like to know how iter people who are actually sleeved feel.

Thanks.

P.s. I'm sitting on the couch with my legs crossed writing this. I just needed to share that with people who would get what it meant. If it was 3 months ago, my legs wouldn't be crossed. ????

Girl.... go ahead and have that iced coffee occationally!

Dont feel guilty- enjoy each sip and make sure you do some extra cardio to combat the extra cals! Try to swap the sugar for fake sugar, to make it Non-Fat and try to stick with a small.

I have 2-3 SF Iced NF Lattes'/week- so from one coffee girl to another- ENJOY! :)

I have at least two iced mocha drinks a day (coffee with chocolate syrup). I use the Lite Hershey's when I make them at home; it's not sugar-free, but it's a lot lower in calories. When I get one at my favorite coffee shop, they just use the regular Hershey's. Obviously if I cut out that sugar, I would save those calories, but there it is. It's just part of my daily food totals, I guess. If you're low-carbing, it won't work for you. Also be sure that you're getting PLENTY of Water, as coffee can be dehydrating because of its diuretic properties, and if you're drinking coffee, you're not drinking Water. One last caveat; if you start experiencing more stomach acid, you may need to cut back or keep away from coffee, which can be highly acidic. It does give me a bit of extra acid, but for this caffeine fiend, it's an acceptable trade-off. Just be aware.

Cheers! (Saluting you with my very own iced mocha right this minute)

Edited to add: These coffee drinks are NOT low-cal; mine are 150 calories each. If you use sugar-free or reduced-sugar Syrup and are diligent about using skim milk, that calorie count drops substantially. If you're going to indulge, be smart about it and be sure to count them in your total. For some of us, it's worth it; other very smart people have ditched their caffeine addiction and don't have to worry about it any more. :-)

I always use skim milk. I hate milk so hardly any. I tried the sugar free hersheys and alone it's yummy but it didn't mix in the coffee well. Just clumped up. But half a small with skin milk once in awhile is making me happy.

Thanks everyone for the help!!

I too, LOVE iced coffee. Have you tried making your own? I mix instant coffee with Water. Splenda and fat free 1/2 & 1/2. You could try adding the Hershey Syrup to the 1/2 & 1/2, coffee and Splenda, stir well, then add the Water .

Another option would be using skim plus (for more protein) and little or no water.

Once in a while a Dunkin Donuts version, won't kill you (as long as it is not a trigger food) You may even be able ask them to make it sugar free and add you own fat free 1/2 & 1/2.

coffee is the only thing I do that was not by my nuts guidelines, I quit for about two months but I

Had to go back, I used to fill a 20 oz thermos every morning now I just do 8 oz and the way I sip at it last the same amount of time. I use skim milk and Splenda. Very few calories, I don't feel guilty at all, I still eat less than 1000 calories a day. I wouldn't be sane without my coffee !!! Lol

You know what- every time someone goes thru the McDonald's drive thru with me they ask "are you suuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrreeeeee you don't want ANYTHING?!?!" and they get that pained look like I'm missing out- and I feel bad because sometimes I am a little hungry or thirsty and would like a treat but their food just goes straight thru me.

But I discovered their coffee kick frappe. I get a small lite milk one sometimes now with the little bit of whipped cream and fudge sauce (it just wouldn't be "it" without it) and I'm soooo happy! I enjoy every sip and I know that one little treat every once in a while makes everyday a little more sparkly :)

If having a iced coffee even daily takes say 1 year off your life think about how many years you've gained by changing yiur enture lifestyle and how each sip makes your day happier.

If you think it's worth it then that's it, that's your own unique little sin that makes you you! Bon appetit!

I ordered rthe sample pack of coffee drinks from Big Train and I think they are really good. I won't be able to drink the coffee ones for a while but the chocolate has 20g of Protein so I will order more if I still like it post-op. The mocha will have to wait awhile...

Hmmm, can't seem to share the link, but it's bigtrain, com

I've tried getting an iced coffee with just skim milk and putting the Hershey's sugar free in myself but it got all clumpy and wouldn't mix well. And it tasted weird. Maybe a bad pot of coffee. I'll try it again. Maybe a different Syrup brand. Sugar isn't the problem either. I don't use it in my coffee.

Thanks for all the advice.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
