I'm 55 And Had My Sleeve Done On August 8

I'm happy to find this group! I'm looking forward to when I can bend over to pick things up, my one soft food meal a day and hiking with my dogs. My husband is supportive and helps out a lot. One of the most difficult things for us both is missing the times we would go out to eat and the anticipation leading up to what we were going to eat.

Welcome Dottie & Connie!

Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery Dottie, hope all goes well with your band removal and your sleeve procedure. Just take it nice and easy post surgery, get some walking in as soon as you possibly can and make sure you have what you need at home post-op, your Protein, clear broth, sugar free drinks, etc. You will probably be tired and it takes awhile to get your strength back. Hang in there.

Connie...sounds like you are doing well. You have a relatively low BMI so not as much to lose as some of us, and sometimes the weight comes off slower for those in your category...gosh even for me, now that I'm about 2/3 of the way toward my goal....it is harder for me to lose, but I will keep on pluggin away!!

Nice to meet you!

Katie

I have managed to survive my first week of soft foods. It has been a challenge after 5 weeks of liquids! Hoping that my stomach likes more things as I try more. A few bites and your "meal" is done. Seems like too much bother sometimes! I am feeling good, my energy seems to be coming back. I still struggle with getting enough fluids in each day. I have never been a big drinker, so this is hard for me. Down 21 pounds, been stalled a couple of times and I am only one month out. I put the scale away so I just need to learn to stay off of it.

Hope all of you are doing great and good luck to those that have surgery still to look forward too!

Hi All! I'm 55 right now and will be having my surgery the day after my birthday, September 21st. I'm so excited and nervous, and really really happy I found this forum! I felt like I was the oldest one on the whole site! I've never had any kind of surgery either, but the closer it gets the more calm I become. It's exciting to think about what I will be doing this time next year, when I turn 57 and hopefully am 100 pounds or more thinner!

Good luck Seven7, you will do great! The surgery pain only lasts for a short while, then you feel pretty good. ;) Life begins with a new "normal" after surgery.

Best of luck to you!

Hi everyone I am 58 years old and had my band to sleeve revision on August 14 th and it really has been a breeze.. I found nautral calm plus calcium by natural vitality works great and really fast for constipation. www.naturalvitality.com. I was watching a utube video and can't remember who suggested it, but they said they picked it up from Sprouts farmers market but I'd you don't have one go online and see where else they sale it it really works and fast.. Hope this helps!

Welcome pegsue...a friend of mine recommended the same product - I may want to keep some on hand, but I would say overall I have not been having a problem at this stage of the game - I am about 5 months out and as long as I have salads and some fruit my bowels move fairly well.

What stage of eating are you at, soft/mushy? Are you finding the dietary recommendations difficult?

Good Luck!

I am 59 and was sleeved on March 14. No problems at all. I can eat anything I want, just not much of it! I am very pleased with my weight loss. Every day I am in wonderment over my shrinkage!! Ahhh, life is good...

I have 1 and 1/2 weeks of the mushy then on to the normal diet. Have not had any problems with this stage so far in fact it is nice to eat something instead of protein drinks and soups.

pegsue...be warned, once you start regular foods prepare to feel your restriction in full force. Start with your Protein first and see what you can tolerate, at this stage it may only be a few ounces, then a tablespoon or two of a vegetable or fruit.

This is the true power of the sleeve...and if you follow the dietary recommendations of protein first you will get full fast, almost uncomfortably full. It takes time for the swelling in your stomach to reduce allowing more foods, that will happen down the line.

Good luck....and by the way fish is an excellent protein and easy for most to tolerate!!

Thanks I have been having problems when I go too long to eat I tend to eat too fast and have been experiencing nausea right after I sure hope I learn to slow down really soon..

Katie 713 thanks for your input I do love my sleeve so far but not getting nausea when I eat too fast..

I am not a fish fan at all but I guess I might have to try some maybe!

Some people don't like fish...but for so many it is such a healthy option, maybe chicken will be your go to, for some reason chicken was hard for me, it felt so heavy in my little tummy!

I hope you find tasty foods you can tolerate. Don't be afraid to try new recipes!!

Good Luck!

Had my sleeve surgery on sept 10th. The weighed me the day after and I had put on 13 lbs from all the fluids. They said it is very normal but it still upset me as I had worked had to lose 21 lbs prior to the surgery. 7 days out toda and still not back to my pre surgery weight. I am 58 so maybe that had something to do with it? Not sure. I am still having some abdominal pain and my belly is retry swollen. Was feeling very discouraged this morning but better tonight! Have a good night!!

You need time to heal, your body uses fluid in the healing process. Stick to your program and trust that it will come off. Be kind to yourself and get some well needed rest. No heavy lifting no vacuuming...your internal and external wounds need to heal.

Thanks Katie, you are so right and I do need to be easier on myself !!

Hey all you fifties folks! I had my sleeve on Friday, September 21st. I was in the hospital two nights in Dallas and my son and niece drove me home yesterday - a six hour trip. We stopped every hour and I walked around the parking lots and I made the trip fine. Yesterday I had a little trouble getting my protein in but today I've already got it done! Now I can just focus on my water! I love drinking water anyway and it has been somewhat difficult to get used to the sipping. I am so excited about this whole deal and can't wait to get on "mooshies". The time is going so fast it won't be long. Oh, by the way, I'm down 6 pounds today! It's just getting better! I love this site.
