3 Days Post-Op & Can't Manage Anything But Water

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery Aug. 7th (Tuesday) and experienced a prolonged nausea reaction to the anesthesia, so I didn't even try to keep down Water until yesterday (Thursday). Now its Friday and I am super weak having not even had a Protein Shake since Monday.

My Dr. wants us to use nectar for the first 3 weeks. He's super strict about thin liquids during that time, but I cannot stomach the taste of the Nectar. Suggestions?

I know a lot of people who really do not care for the Isopure Protein drinks, but I have found them tolerable. With 40 grams of Protein per bottle, I think it's an excellent option. The hard part is finding a flavor that works best with your taste buds.

I was sleeved Monday 8/6...today is day 4 and I am able to get down much more liquid than I could days 1 and 2. Give yourself time and be patient. Small slow sips.

I hope you get to feeling better soon.

For the first week before I started drinking Protein drinks, I was drinking regular gatorade, fresh juices, bottle juice and sweet tea. I would Water down anything I thought was too sweet. I've always enjoyed juice, but I found that I needed to use a half bottle of juice and half Water. I would sip it all day. This will help you from feeling weak until you get to Protein shakes. These things are no longer part of my diet. I was consuming less than 500 calories per day and dropped weight.

I didn't like plain broth. I would order Soup and just take the broth off the top with my spoon. I would also drink the broth from Campbell's chicken noodle or just the mix from Ramen noodles. It helped to give the broth a little more flavor.

You should try some warm broth. Most stomachs don't tolerate cold drinks so well just out of surgery. You also don't have to stick to nectar eaither. There are so many other types of Proteins in liquid form that you can drink. I prefer the Muscle Milk powders mixed with milk.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
