I did the same thing before my lapband surgery! I think I had "my last meal" about 15 times! I wanted to be sure I got in all the foods I wouldn't get to have again. Looking back it probably wasn't the best idea, because I did gain some weight before surgery. I think alot of people do this....maybe not as many times as I did though.. lol :) Good luck on your surgery!!

I didn't have enough time to, because the month ahead of surgery flew right by me. I did have maybe one dinner here or there. From what I've read though, it's very normal. Just make sure you stick to the pre-op diet if your doctor prescribed one. I think like 2 days before my surgery I just about had a panic attack thinking about all the stuff I'd 'never get to eat again'. Now that I'm post-op, it doesn't even sound appealing, and I've realized that at some point in my life I'll still probably be able to have a small portion of them, but for the time being, they're not really even on my mind.

I was with you last week... got my favorite birthday cake and ate about 1/2 of it over 3 days. Then 2 days later was liquid fasting to prep for my first surgery consult.... good thing because he gave me a cancellation spot that opened up for just 5 days away. Been behaving since but have had 6 months of funeral food so it's about time I buckle down. Wanted to break the carb addiction before surgery and that is done. A small bit of sushi tonight (final funeral) and then final regular food tomorrow.....liquid only on Tuesday and Surgery Wed. excited- freaked out- thankful to finally be here- hopeful for the year ahead

612belly

man oh man, did i see right? you gained 4 lbs.

only kidding about your small weight gain, don't kick yourself in the tush too much ;) don't beat yourself up about it either

i am now hanging head down very low

i had two weeks prior to WLS, that i went food crazy

My dr. didn't require a pre- op diet op before WLS. i wish he had, that might have prevented me from eating too much. so its the dr.s fault, right?

i don't think so, he didn't force food down my throat :)

i didn't need any help with that

I gained weight pre-surgery. mmm don't seem to remember how much i gained  oh yeah, for my ears only

its true, other people go through this longer food funeral too, so you're not the only one

good luck, you'll be fine :)

I think it is very common. I ate everything in sight , and a lot of it, before my preop diet started.

I had 3 meals 3 days before my pre op started mums lasagne was the sat, then I had roast pork potatoes and veg sun and Monday day before I had mums homemade chicken and veg pie.

That was it for me they were the 3 things I wanted and mum was like we can go anywhere or order any food you want they were my choices!

I lost weight during my pre op diet even when I had to switch from my first choice to food on doctors orders.

They know we do the last supper thing and what I was told is as long as you do it at least a week before the op then its not so bad what they find is people stick to the pre op then the 1-2 days before op day they panic and do the last meal thing ruining the point of the pre op diet.

Which isn’t for weightloss at all its to shrink the liver.

I have not been sleeved yet but I have to be completely honest when I say that I don't see anything wrong with it.

It's a finale. A closure. Your way way of hopefully saying that it's all good. A silver lining sort of if you will in that you will soon enough be able to enjoy things again.

A peace of mind if you will. It may be a kind of weird way to think of it but I don't worry about that. I really don't. I have made up my mind to have the surgery and I know that I will probably have a few days of stuff that I shouldn't and wouldn't normally do even with the changes I have made...

All is well. Don't sweat it. Do it if you feel like and don't if you don't. You have to have some peace of mind from somewhere and it's odd the thoughts and the places where these things come from.

Rambling maybe but it's all good in my mind lol!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
