Dyeing My Hair

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies,

I was recently sleeved (6/14) and unfortunately my hair is thinning quite a bit. I'm worried if I dye my hair today it could be a disaster. My roots are showing and I'm going to a party tomorrow, so I'd really like to know what you all think.

Thanks!

Ask your hairdresser - there are so many different types of color out there. My hairdresser changed the type of dye she uses when I told her I was worried about Hair loss. Now she uses more of a gloss that leaves my hair very healthy. My hair loss is minimal.

This question has come up a few times. You might want to search terms like "hair loss dye" and see what you can find.

Here's a response I made to a previous thread:

I'm not a hair dresser but when you consider the reasons why the hair falls out, I can't imagine that a dye job would make it worse. The dye is just topical. The reasons the hair is falling out are systemic.

There may be some impact on how your hair takes the color. Things like anesthesia, and especially antibiotics, exit our bodies in a lot of ways, including our hair (hence hair-based drug tests are effective for months). WHile they're still in our hair significantly, it can impact how certain treatments work. E.g. my stylist will not perm your hair if you've taken antibiotics in the last 3 months, she has you wait.

Just my best guess. :)

Here's the thread if you want to read more input:

They make Shampoo that washes in haircolor and fades after a few washes with normal shampoo. That way you get color when you need it and you don't have to worry about doing any damage to your hair. They also make mousse that puts a tint in your hair.

Coloring your hair will not cause any problems. But bleaching it likely will.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
