Ryokokitty got a reaction from 920amy in Oh Diet Coke, How I've Missed Thee...For me, I had a twelve week class that I took for surgery (Options) and they said we should stop drinking soda completely by week eight. It was hard because I love soda (especially Coke). I took baby steps. I started drinking Coke Zero and by the time week eight came up I was drinking caffeine free tea and Wylan's five calorie drinks (kool aid really). Drinking soda was my biggest problem, it shot my sugar levels over 200 in the morning. After doing that all before my surgery helped in the end, my A1C was at 6 (normal). Two weeks ago, my doctor deleted my prescription for diabetes medication off of my medical record.

400-600 calories
64 oz. of Water
I work out every day for at least an hour and a half. I think I'm losing inches more than weight at this point.

Ryokokitty got a reaction from sramos89 in Eating When Not HungryI don't really feel hungry right now but I made myself a schedule to make sure I don't fall behind on protein and nutrients. I've gotten cravings for things but I haven't felt like I've been starving myself. I'm on a 400-600 calorie diet so I try to stick to the priorities. I guess what I'm saying is, that I had to reset the way I looked at food completely. I eat to keep the body going and to stop myself from grazing, I set of schedule of times to eat. I can't say it will be easy, because its definitely not for me.

Ryokokitty reacted to isajck in Oh Diet Coke, How I've Missed Thee...In addition to other items, my surgeon has very strict rules about soda consumption and smoking. I was addicted to both as a major coke addict (several a day) and smoker (1/4 - 1/2 pack a day). Never thought I'd be able to stop either but was doubly worried about the soda. I stopped coke, cold turkey, 2 months prior to surgery and the cigs 1 1/2 month. I did this because my surgeon will not knowingly operate on people that still drink soda and/or smoke. Those are his rules and I respect them.
People I have spoken to state that he has very strict pre and post op rules and they are correct but maybe this is how he keeps his complication rates low. I've no idea but I chose him to be my surgeon and feel like it is my duty to follow his rules. There are many WLS docs in my city and if I did not want to tow the line, I could have selected someone else.
Do I still crave two of my biggest vices? Hell yes, almost daily but I am trying to make positive health changes for the future. I went so far as to mutilate my stomach in an effort to lose weight so at least I can do all to make it a worthwhile endeavor.

Ryokokitty reacted to buffalogal in Oh Diet Coke, How I've Missed Thee...You can do what you want to do, but to promote it, is irresponsible. Everyone here is here because of various demons, and the best chance we have at success is cleaning up our acts and starting our lives exactly the way our doctors told us to. This kind of post is like going to AA and talking about having just "one little small drink". I'm judging you for encouraging something we know is detremental. I hope most readers ignore this and listen to their surgeons.

Ryokokitty got a reaction from sandipq in Oh Diet Coke, How I've Missed Thee...I don't think people are criticizing you just because they're no longer overweight and want to judge you. Its a general concern that after nine days after surgery, you're still healing that sleeve. Everything you mentioned does suck and I don't think anyone enjoyed the pain. I believe that they are trying to prevent you from causing any damage to yourself. You may not like what they said, but they are trying to be helpful. Not one is out to get you.

Ryokokitty got a reaction from buffalogal in Oh Diet Coke, How I've Missed Thee...Its a requirement to take these classes through Kaiser. The classes are to prepare people how to eat healthy before before and after surgery. It was originally developed for the RNY surgery but they have recently opened up the option to have the VSG and Lap Band as well. I can't say what will work for you, but for me it was a gradual process.
