Colon Blow anyone?!?

Recommended Posts

I thought it was the experimental gas suction study your surgeon was participating in?

This is a part of the experiment...I said that in another thread. Don't tell me you missed a thread with me in it Donna. Shame on you girl!! A few days before surgery that was a requirement. It seemed silly at the time, but now it makes complete sense to me....not to be confused with they also are working on a way to suck the gas out after surgery, but you may be confusing the issues. The fact is I had absolutely no gas pains...so should I thank my surgeon who recommended it, or his team that sucked the gas out. Whatever it was it worked!! This subject was around all last mo. I guess you just overlooked my responses to " it was recommended by my dr"...., but don't let it worry you. We still on for Christmas?

Ok....I just looked at the website and.......well......I can't even imagine wearing a colon blow t-shirt...LMAO.

Please let us know how this works and what you have to take. I can barely get my Protein shakes down so if it's gross....there's no way I can do it.

Call me a cynic, but I don't get how taking a massive dump will make you lose weight. What does that have to do with burning fat and calories? And if you have the type of body that tends to build up a lot of stuff in your colon, won't it just start building up again? Or would you have to take this laxative on a regular basis? I think it might give you a boost mentally, but as a weight loss technique, it seems kind of fad-ish to me. :)

I'd say cynicism is healthy. Colon blow is primarily psyllium husk - it's a simple bulk forming fibre that expands over a hundred size it's time with Water. The extra bowel movement people produce is not from stuff accumulating in the bowel, but is simply the product they've taken expanded to it's maximum size once ingested.

The weight lost is Water weight from the bowel when the psyllium husk absorbs water from the body while in the bowels. Colon blow powder form is just psyllium husk and stevia (all stevia is is a herbal sweetner), no other ingredients.

You can buy psyllium husk in bulk a zillion times cheaper in many places. Small amounts are helpful forms of fibre even for some bandsters. Large amounts like in products like colon blow have a risk for blockage, some surgeons recommend bandsters completely avoid bulk forming fibre supplements, like psyllium, because of the risk of blockage and slippage.

The colon blow capsules, are boosted with seneca (senekot) and cascara - two simple inexpensive herbal laxatives. Again as with bulk forming Fiber, laxatives cause water weight loss as they pull water from the bowels. You may lose minimal amounts of fat/calorie loss with repeated use of laxatives as it causes food to move through your system faster impeding absorption - it also impedes absorption of essential Vitamins and minerals.

If someone was set on doing a psyllium and/or psyllium and herbal laxative 'cleanse' I would a) consult with your lapband dr.'s office first to see what their restrictions/recommendations for large doses of bulk forming Fiber, specifically psyllium use is. and :) if you do go through with it, hit a bulk store or health food store for psyillium at a fraction of the price. Psyllium husk is a readily available very cheap product.

Here's a great resource for information on herbs/supplements I always like to consult before I take stuff.

Just my 2 cents worth. :biggrin1:

From what I've been told, what's building up in your colon, isn't just crap. Apparently, there are toxins or "sludge" that builds up & when you clean it out, things just work better. :)

I was looking into having colonics done, but it can be so expensive. I figured this would be a much cheaper way to take care of it. My doctor says there is no problems with doing this. What I've heard from others is that this is not a laxative & there are no emberassing explosions. It just cleans out the stuff that doesn't need to be in there. :) Your poop is just "different" then normal.

Just in case anybody is wondering, I am having no problems Healthwise at all. I feel great & do not have problems being "regular." I just need a little jump start to kick my weight loss into gear. I have heard this could possibly help. We'll see!!!

Once it comes in, I will let you know the instructions of how to use it & try to be as discreet as I can about how it's workin'. :(

Oh my god, just went to the website and checked out the "Outstanding Poop Pix" link - good god girl, you must let us know if THAT comes out of you!! To think that stuff is inside you.

Great website, they have quite the sense of humor. Colonblow, does anyone else remember the classic Saturday Night Live Colonblow commercial from the late 80's early 90's. I'm thinking of placing my order just for the free t-shirt!!!

Keep us updated - Funny were your results typical of the pix? Gosh we all all warped. You can add "poop train conductor" to your list of side jobs also...

I don't care if this topic has been beaten to death before, this is really funny!!

Furthermore, I can't wait to go to the site to learn more.

I had read, Dody, that you found that it helped with the horrible gas pains after surgery. So, good grief, if us newbies can benefit from this, by all means... let's talk about it... give us the blow by blow, doncha know!:heh:

Of course, descriptive accounts of ya'lls DH's daily by-products may be a bit less helpful. Amusing, nontheless.:nervous

As long as you check with your MD, I suppose this procedure is fine. For anyone with heart problems, you can alter your Fluid and electrolyte balance so be careful. The body rids itself of toxins via two primary routes... feces and urine. Once you "clean" out, you're back to baseline is less than a week.

I can't imagine what it is that you "take" in the place of a meal. You all probably don't remember the bran diet that made the rounds. You put unprocessed Miller's Bran in your food as an additive. We used to laugh about the subsequent "blow outs" we had. It gave new meaning to "is 6 enough, is 12 too many."

Ok. Now I'm showing my age, aren't I? Rats. And I thought I was being so cool.

Honestly, I don't think I would ever do this to my body. It worries me that it would end up being like douching, and get rid of important things that are bodies need and by getting rid of them, we end up causing ourselves a bunch of new infections, etc.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
