I was nervous and contemplated not doing the surgery. I had lost almost 60 lbs before the surgery. Was told only 30 lbs was necessary...I really got into the lifestyle changes. Anyway, I am finding my biggest hurdle is I am Thirsty!!! All I want is my ice Water. I would give anything for one big swallow of ice cold water. Seems silly but it's true! Don't want food just my water...I am not a sipper and it hurts! I was never a big sweet eater, but am munching on the sugar free popsicles (barf) to stay hydrated. I am also experiencing burning sensations around the laproscopic sights. I am numb and as the sensors wake up I go through burning to sore to whatever - ir's all good. I get to start pureed foods next week...funny...U miss my healrhsmart oatmeal w/ flax and crushed almonds for breakfast...kept me going for hours. I feel hungry all the time now. Weird/new sensations! So glad I happened upon this sight this morning!

I'm also having a problem with eating to gulp ice Water cos I feel so thirsty ... And being in Texas with 110 degree weather doesn't help. I've had to force myself to do little sips & I avoid going outside in the heat if possible. I did a big gulp of cold water the other day and I was like ow ow ow until I burped lol

With each passing day I am beginning to regret this decision even more and I have no recourse. I guess I thought aAI should have been feeling better and I am getting more and more tired with each passing day. I am drinking all the time. Had to get an IV today becasue I was dehydrated. Still feeling light headed. At least I don't have a headache. Have had no weightloss because I can't eat anything - body is in shut down I guess. finally found a Protein Drink I could drink without gagging. I was so excited before and now...blah

Syntrax Nectar brand stayed down in the beginning. So did EAS carb control. I was sooooo thirsty for the first two weeks even as I was drinking. I am just about three weeks now and it has gotten better. What a difference this week has been!

I feel thirsty a lot also... I'm at a week and a half. Just keep reminding yoursel of why you made this decision in the first place - be it to get healthy / more energetic / just plain feel better... It will come. Everything you want the most comes with a price... Work for it - YOU CAN GET OVER THIS HURDLE!! ;-)

Sorry you're having so many problems. Keep your chin up because it will get better. For some it just takes longer. Some drinks I was okay with before surgery just don't taste right to me after surgery. I decided to try the premier high Protein vanilla premade shake (got it at Sam's Club) and it actually tastes good. You might want to try that if you can. They also have chocolate flavor. Only 160 cals, 30g Protein, low carb, low fat. Not to expensive. It's around $19 for a case of 12.

If you can tolerate those & get 2 in you a day then you'll be getting at least 60g protein & that will help with healing.

We're all here for you. Update us on how things are going.

Thanks you guys - I really appreciate your responses. I am (usually) such a positive thinking person, but man, this has kicked me for a loop I guess! Your words of encouragement are so welcomed. Thanks for the suggestions. I went to the local Vitamin Shoppe and bought various clear Protein Drinks in the hopes I can sip on those with success. I am supposed to start pureed foods today...we shall see what I can tolerate I guess. Until then, happy sipping! K

You are so early out and what you are going through is completely not unexpected at this point. Just keep sipping. Also, warm liquids go down easier in the beginning. I used chicken stick with a bullion cube and my sleeve loved it. Also, I am only 5 weeks, 4 days out and have been able to take decent sized gulps for almost 2 weeks without pain. However, I can still feel it in my chest but it doesn't hurt. It's more like pressure. And, just one other tidbit of information. It was exactly 4 weeks after surgery that I woke up feeling "normal" and it is the best feeling ever. Give yourself time to heal and you will be LOVING your sleeve. It my favorite part of my body. :-)

Hi Amy - thanks for the encouragement. I experienced my first and LAST dumping experience this morning. I had been so concerned about being weak that I bought a Protein coffee flavored drink and did not even look at the carb count - holy crap - thought I was going to die. Won't EVER make that mistake again!!

Been there with nsa apple juice. It had so much freaking sugar it upset my stomach for 3 days. After that, I did 50/50 Water & juice. Juice still tasted good & did not upset my stomach. It's funny how some people can tolerate things others can't & vice-versa. It's all a learning process for all of us. Hope you find a Protein Drink that works for you.

I really went through hell my first 3 weeks after WLS & thought life was never going to be the same, wondered about mistakes too. But then I started improving every week, like someone else said it just takes some of us longer to heal & adjust. Took me 6 wks before I could say I was mostly back to normal. Just get through each day for now & it will get better!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
