Vsg Followed By Gall Bladder Sx

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Some of you may recognize my name on here. I was sleeved on June 7th out of the hospital a few days later and was off pain meds right away. I thought it was successful except for the pain after I ate. No matter what went in a for a very sharp pain right below my left rib cage, it was awful and no matter what position I laid in the pain wouldn't subside. Until I would puke up whitish/clear flem. very few times did food actually come back up, it was really bizarre. Since I was afraid to eat I was taking in about 250 calories a day on a HIGH day, therefore I was getting very dizzy upon standing and even blacked out once.

Finally exactly three Weeks to the day past surgery I was in so much pain that I went to the E.R. After a cat scan and ultra sound I was told nothing on my left looked out of the ordinary but my gall bladder was full of "sludge", they did three nuclear medicine scans and then determined that my gall bladder was completely obstructed (nothing going in or out) and I had a major case of pancreatitis because of it. I was admitted to the hospital and two days later, Saturday June 30th I was sedated AGAIN to have my gall bladder removed.

Now the pain on my left is gone but I am in a lot of post surgical pain on the right, i'm sure being opened up twice in three Weeks before I was completely healed didn't help matters.

When will I feel normal? The doctor told me the gall bladder gets obstructed from losing weight so quickly, but isn't that the point of the surgery. Why don't they just automatically take the gall bladder during the vsg surgery if this is so common.

Any thoughts? Words of encouragement? I'm not eating again because everything makes me vomit.... And in so much pain I can barely stand up straight.... Completely miserable!!

Anyone else have the surgeries so close together?

I m sorry you had to go through that and just know it will get better. I had my gallbladder removed at the same time as my surgery. Many people don't have any issues with their gallbladder until after surgery because of the rapid weight loss, my gallbladder was full of stones before surgery it never bothered me and I found out by chance. Then I asked for a specific ultrasound of my gallbladder and that's how we found all the stones and my surgeon said he would remove the gallbladder during the surgery. I know it's rough but it will get better. Sending hugs your way...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
