I have Multiple Sclerosis I wondered if I could have the surgery. From what I was told I wouldn't have any problem & my neurologist would have to give me the ok. Talked to my Neuro & he thought it was a good idea for his patient & said there shouldn't be any issues. I have been DX for 2yrs. I'm current stable. I do have concerns that I will have a flare up after surgery' date=' it's a risk with any surgery & a autoimmune disorder. There is the option of putting the fibro or whatever autoimmune disorder on the back burner (hush hush) until after surgery. DX these type disorders can take mths or yrs & u don't want ur surgery put off till then. Also don't rush the DX or fibro. DRs told me it basically means they don't know. There maybe another autoimmune disorder that hasn't fully shown itself. Sorry for the book! Lol![/quote']

No it cool lol and I am thinking the same thing you know. They dont need to know till afterwards. I just think and it maybe closed minded in my thinking but I feel losing weight just makes things better all around it may not be a fix all but it sure is an help all.

I don't agree. I have auto-immune issues with pain. The surgeon needed to know so he could help keep any pain from flares under control. Also, many insurance companies approve faster and w/o making you jump thru as many hoops if you have what's called a comorbtality. (I didn't spell that correctly.) But basically a disease that weight loss would improve from.

Also, it's just not safe for you to go under the knife and your care team not know everything about your health.

Good luck!

Wow.. couldn't agree more. None of us woke up over weight and the surgery is going to take a while to get approved, scheduled, etc and then it still takes a while and lots of work for the weight to come off. You should definitely be telling your doc everything.

I do plan on letting my doctor know but right now my pcp is still trying to rule things out. There is nothing to tell. But I am a need to know kind of person and its ip to my discretion. Thats all

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
