My Period Is Regular! But Facial Hair Is Here To Stay :(

Recommended Posts

7 Months post-op. I lost 33 kilos' date=' down from 115 kg to 82 kg (from 253 lbs to 180 lbs). I know 82 kg doesn't sound skinny, but I am also very tall so the results are to my liking. I buy size 40 jeans (size 30 in jeans measurements, size 12 in EU sizes or size 8 US), I feel much better about my body and my life in general.

The great surprise was that my period returned - it appears once a month, which is something that never happened before. The other side effects of PCOs, however, are here to stay: the excess hair on my face, the dark Patches of skin on the feet and neck (my sugar levels were always okay, so it wasn't diabetes).

Seeing that losing so much weight did not help me get rid of the facial hair, I started taking Yasmin contraceptive pills. The doctor says that within 3 months I should see some improvement. Will update if it works.[/quote']

Estella,

I agree...lose weight - gain period and facial hair. One thing came to me the other day as I was tweezing away....I am taking Biotin to help with my hair on my head, guess maybe it is helping me grow more hair everywhere...geez.

Oh well I will take the facial hair over the 110 lbs that are gone from my body forever!

Best to you all.

I sometimes get a soft fine blondish fuzz, especially across my jawline. Courtesy of my last pregnancy, and 3 years later still happens. I use an epilator which works well. I can't tolerate using the epilator on my legs, but face is fine.

This is my group! :) I get lasered every six weeks. 6 sessions usually lasts me a few years. There is significant difference. Now I seem to be sprouting hair on my cheeks (what the heck!) pcos will drive me to drink I swear. I also bought a sensi epi light machine thing o use at home after my treatments are over for maintenance.

I'm interested in hearing about improvements in the facial hair side of things. I've got pcos' date=' formally diagnosed about 6 years ago but have had increasingly worse symptoms since about 1995. I am in no way exaggerating when I say I own upwards of 20 pars of tweezers. I keep a pair stashed everywhere: in my car, my purse, my desk, nearly every room of my house, my husbands car (he doesn't know that though!), at my in laws.......forget the American Express card-I don't leave home without tweezers! Aside from the ingrown ones, I don't even need a mirror anymore. Any time someone looks at me too intently or too long I get really insecure....just KNOW one has sprouted, scurry to the nearest mirror the moment I can. I have noticed women with facial hair and so I just assume other people can see it on me, if I haven't yanked it out by the root. And what the h is THAT about? Remember when they used to tell us not to be too aggressive with plucking our eyebrows because you damage the root and they don't grow back? How come that doesn't work with facial hair? I reckon pulling them out only stimulates hardier growth myself, but I cannot leave the house with this crP on my face!

I actually use an emjoi (made for legs!) on my chin, jaw, and throat daily and then go back with tweezers. Every. Single. Morning. And then tweeze throughout the day as I discover them. It's so time consuming, and annoying, and I just feel so unfeminine. I nearly die of embarrassment when my husband catches me plucking......

I've never tried laser or electrolysis. Waxing breaks me out. I shaved ONCE, and oh what a mistake THAT was.[/quote']

I did laser and it got rid of about 80%. I go for touch ups every 6 months but still have to pluck inbetween. Shave a little but i sort of dont have to. If i were you get it lasered, makes it much more managable and no 5'oclock!!

I also have PCOS like many of you, averagely speaking does anyone mind saying how many pounds they lost before they saw their cycles start to return to normal?

Laser hair removal on my face is by far the best thing I ever invested in! It is so much more affordable now a day. I highly reccomend it!

I too have used laser treatments for years now. I have to say I wish I would of done it sooner. It is more affordable now. I feel so much better because I don't have to be in front of the mirror everyday checking what has grown out and what I need to pluck. I used to not pick up my hair because of the fear of someone seeing my facial hair.

I highly recommend for anyone to get laser treatments. There are so many companies out there just do your research.

my dr. told me to try the NO!No! says it works... i is expensive though... but really thinking about buying one. so tired of the excess facial hair. was hoping to hear that getting sleeved would help with that...bummer!

I'll sell you my no!no! I have not seen any improvement with it. To me it seems to be another of the many rip offs that I fell for!

The NoNO does work very well!

Has anyone had problems on Hair loss? Did hair become fuller after surgery?

I've found laser terrific for chin and upper lip - only about $10 for chin. Not permanent but huge improvement with both finer hairs and less frequent re growth over a short period of time. And its very quick - 5 mins and you're on your on your say.

But don't wait too long - I'm in my 50s and some of those chin hairs are now turning white - you need dark hair to laser. And my skin is quite fragile (ageing) so plucking - that makes hairs coarser - causes me to end up with nasty lumps and scabs from ingrown hairs that irritate for a long time before they break the skin surface. Really yuk.

Electrolysis is the best option for facial hair. Laser can make "peach fuzz" stronger and darker, and can also cause skin discoloration. And electrolysis is permanent. Laser is not. Best thing I ever did for myself. If you have PCOS, you may always need spot treatments for new hairs that come in. When I first started, I needed an hour a week. Then half an hour. Then half an hour per fortnight. Now it is three years later and I book in for 15 minutes every 6 months. I've had her shape my eyebrows too.

A question for all' date=' was there any change in the facial hair? Frequency of return, thickness, anything?

I have PCOS and while I know the sleeve is not a miracle cure, I was at least hoping there would be some change in the facial hair.< /p>

Oh and I've tried laser hair removal and electolysis and both only worked short time. The minute I stopped treatment the hair returned to its previous frequency and thickness, quickly with electroylsis and after about a year with the laser. Just my experience, as usual anyone else's could be different.[/quote']

Electrolysis is not a one-time shot. Each individual hair may need to be treated 3-4 times and takes about 6 weeks to grow back enough to be treated again. You need to commit to at least a year of treatments to see permanent results. You also can't tweeze or wax between treatments, but only shave. Shaving is easier on your skin and the discoloration and bumps will calm down. At first I had to take a razor to work and shave part of the way through the day.

Laser did not work for me, made the hair a little bit softer for a few weeks then came right back. I may need to look into electro!

I started at 288 and got my period back at 260. Regular like. 260 is also the weight at which I stopped my regular periods as well.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
