OK, this is my first post. I had my sleeve on May 10. Everything was going pretty well, I had lost 13 lbs by the 23rd, and then four days ago the weight loss stopped. I started at 255, lost 11 lbs the week before surgery on the preop diet, and am now at 231.

I have heard that people stall, but already?? I am having one Protein shake, one egg, 1/4 cup tuna, and two ounces of fish daily, plus maybe a tablespoon or two of puréed broccoli as a snack. My doctor has me on a soft food diet after the two week mark. I have not been exercising, but I have stayed active. And I drink 64 ozs of crystal light.

Does anyone have a recommendation? I am feeling pretty bummed to not be making progress.

It definitely could be a stall already. Or, it could be that you're not eating enough calories! It's great that you're getting the Water in though. I find that a challenge!

Try eating just a little bit more (if you can do it) and see if that helps. If not, just be patient (yes, I know...that sux). The numbers will continue to drop soon.

You've already lost 24 lbs. That is freaking amazing! When was the last time you lost 24 lbs in less than one month? Never, I'll bet!

Also, did you take body measurements when you started? If so, then hide the damn scale (so hard....I know!). It's only frustrating you right now. Instead, do body measurements 1/week and you will probably see changes there, even if the scale is not moving. Focus on NSVs (non-scale victories).

For me, for example. I have hardly needed my Asthma meds since I started the liquid diet pre-op. Before that, I was on 3 different puffers and an oral med. This is a life-changing NSV for me and I've only lost 22 lbs (with another 160+ to go!).

There are TONS of great things happening for you right now.........even if the scale doesn't reflect that. Keep the faith and keep up the good work!

Google "glycogen storage" and "weight loss" and you will find a plethora of information on why this happens. Most of the initial loss is Water. Give your body some time and it will adjust, and you will lose weight. I would recommend trying to incorporate walking into your daily routine, exercise does help. Even if you start at just 30 minutes and move up over time to an hour 3-5 days per week. Or every day if you can do it!

Are you journaling your intake to see how much protein/carb/fat you are taking in? You seem to be eating the right stuff, but it's good to see if you are under or hitting 600 calories per day, 60-100g of Protein (the more the better), under 40g of carbs, and under 20g of fat. Your fluids sound good, 64oz is great.

Patience is definitely key with this surgery. Best of luck!

I had a stall at the end of the 2nd week that lasted 8 days. I was frustrated also.

I second the measurement thing! I've been at the same weight for 3 days so far, but I do my measurements weekly & found out today that I lost 6.75 inches throughout my body this week (3 of which were in my waist)!!!

I stalled at 3 weeks out for 13 days and finally today I broke it. 3 lbs down! It will get better.

You're not alone!.. I was sleeved on 04/26/12, and have lost about 22 lbs since then. (Amazing!) But the last 7 days have been one big stall.

Part of that is "that time of the month", but it's very difficult to know I'm doing what I'm supposed to, and still not seeing the scale move.

(Internally there's this message "How can I consume 500-600 calories a day and NOT lose?")

But.... the body has to do its thing.

It's super frustrating, yes. But we just have to keep at it.

Follow instructions, and the weight will come off. I'm with you!! Good luck!!

I was sleeved on the same day as you. And i will second what the others here have already told you. Quit using the scale and star using the tape measure.

Also, start exercising. Even if you are only walking. Do something to get your heart rate up.

We are in the exact same boat with the exception of our surgery date. Mine was 4/23. Stats and feelings are exactly the same though. LOL

I stalled at about 3 wks out. That stall lasted about 2 wks then I lost 2 lbs. Then I stalled again for another 2 wks and then lost another 3 lbs....Stalls are extremely frustrating, but during my stalls I too noticed inches lost. I'm hoping the scale will start moving tho.

keepin it real ;)

I know how you feel, I;m at the same place you are. i'm going on 3 weeks with no weight loss. I;m 6 weeks post op, lost 25 pounds in the first 3 weeks and nothing in the last 3 weeks. Everyone keeps telling me to hang in there. But its hard when you are doing all the right things and your not losing.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
