Hi all,

I have to agree with you. I don't know what it's like when everyone talks about pressure in their chest, golf ball feeling, pb'ing. Not that I want to know. But yesterday, was the first day I felt like I could eat anything. I had to go to sleep early. I was so miserable. I have a 10cc band. Does that mean something.

Elisabeth, you asked Chrissie what size band she has. If I have a 10cc band does that mean it's going to take a long time before I see restriction. What's the norm for a first fill on a 10cc band? I go for my first fill on Oct 12th. I can't wait. I would appreciate any information you have.

Hope everyone is doing well. Talk to you soon.

I have a card the Dr. gave me the day after surgery. On the front of the card it says 9.75/10.0cm band. I will be going to Long Island Bariatric Center in Levittown on Mon. for my first fill. So I don't know yet how often or how much they put in, I'll have to ask. But it sounds like you have had the same experience that I've heard from others-that it can take a few fills before you feel restriction?? I think this is a large band and may take more to fill. What is everyone elses experience with fills?

The size band that you have has nothing to do with your weight and everything to do with your anatomy. There is no way to predict, until the surgeon actually views the organs, what size band you will come out of the OR with.

Unfortunately, there is no set amount for a first fill. It really depends on the preference and experiences of the MD. Also, some people don't feel the results of a fill for up to 2 weeks after getting it. Obviously, bigger bands hold more saline so someone with a 4 cc capacity might start with 1 cc for a fill while a patient with a larger capacity might get 2-3 cc's.

It might take a few fills but eventually you will fill restriction.

Good morning everyone!

I'm doing pretty well with my pre surgery weight loss. With the group I'm working with you have to lose your 10% before you even get to see the surgeon.

I'm in the process of getting all my clearances, and I've lose 21 lbs so far!

From 317 I'm down to 296! I'm absolutely thrilled with my results so far. I'm on a 1200 calorie diet, and at first the weight kind of melted away, but I'm having to start adding exercise to see results now.

Well hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

Good Job Lilnena. I had to lose 5% before I could make my appt with the surgeon. You seem to be doing really well. Once your banded it will be easier to lose weight. Keep us posted on how your doing and when your surgery is and keep up the great work

Great Job. I think that's a great idea. It's a good kick start before you get banded. I also think that when you diet pre-band for a short time, it's very helpful post band so that you don't feel like your missing something. You're well on your way to a healthy lifestyle. Good luck.

Excellent work...keep it up.

(BTW October 17th is the next meeting for Dr. Geiss' under 1 year banded patients, send me a quick note if you are going. It would be great to meet some of my fellow banders.)

Hey fellow New Yorkers! from Manhattan, born and raised. I live in Washington Heights. Im in my Senior year at a SUNY in upstate NY, near Rochester. I too am 26...its nice to see some Bandsters around my age...its been hard to find many. Im about to start my 6month Doc supervised diet so I should be getting getting banded sometime next year at Saint Lukes.

Great to find some locals and Bandsters my age.

Hi Guys,

I am from Brooklyn. I was banded 9/25/06. Nice to know, I have some locals I can speak with. Hopefully I can move around in here. I am not finding it that easy.

Hi, I'm from westchester and I will be getting banded by Dr Ortiz on Dec 15th. I'm going to need a fill dr in the nyc area and possibly a support group. I saw that there is one at Lenox Hill and NYU. I started my liquid diet today and I'm struggling with trying to quit smoking. How's everyone else doing??

I doubt that you will find a fill doctor. Most docs don't give post surgery support to anyone who has not been banded by them and especially by someone in Mexico. You'd better check this out quick since the 15th is not far away. You definitely need someone to go to after the surgery.

Good luck

Hi BrownEyes, My surgeon was in Brooklyn, his name is Dr. Jerzey Macura, but if you are interested in Manhattan there is Beth Israel Hospital, I think Dr. Goodman. But you can check. I am certain they have support groups as well.

Good Luck.

Lynn from Brooklyn , NY

Drs. Fielding and Ren at NYU have been known to take on some patients banded in Mexico for fills and follow-up. I'm not sure what the criteria are, but you could call Tammy (one of the very helpful staff) at 212-263-3166 to find out.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
