What Week Were You Able To Eat Normal Food?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 4/11/12, and all is wonderful, but I am starting to want different foods.

My NUT says 49 days out until I can eat regular food, my surgeon seems to be way more laid back. I just want to try a bit of chicken, meat, tiny bit of Pasta, etc.

So, just curious when did most of you start being able to eat anything?

I started soft purees 2 wks out. 3rd and 4th week some soft moist meats (can tuna it was still too dry for me). I am 4+ weeks and can tolerate Wendy's chili and most chicken thighs or legs only in small quantity though. Be very care, chew, chew, chew and take your time.

My surgeon and plan seem to be one of the most restrictive I've come across on the forum. I'm a little over 7 weeks out and I'll be able to add eggs, cheese, fish and Beans NEXT week. I've been tempted to cheat since a lot of people here talk about their plans including these soft foods at like 2 weeks. But, I'm a chicken to cheat. I chose my surgeon and pledged to do whatever they said. Good luck. :D

You are better then me. I have put a few Cheez It's in my mouth until they were moist and chewed, chewed, chewed. I know that is bad but I was careful.

I was just sleeved on 5/10 so not near solids yet. My surgeon says Day 29 I can start regular food & obviously just chew, chew, chew & try one thing at a time in case it disagrees with me.

Right now I am on liquid diet & cannot wait until I add in purees/mushies. About 2 more weeks until I can do that!

It didn't get REALLY hard until about last weekend!! In some ways it's helped me battle my head hunger too, so maybe there's a method to their madness!! Hang in there!

Hi! My surgery was 4/9 and today was my 1 month+ post op visit to my doctor. I'm cleared now for everything. No restrictions.

I was so shocked because I did feel hunger after the 2nd week of liquids post-op. I am wondering does the ability to eat normally ever happen. I know we will have smaller portions (which I am happy about) but now it is just weird trying to eat. I worry about getting enough Protein but trying to eat is not that pleasant for me now. 4+ weeks out.

I was told at 4 weeks out which i am now I can start soft food like chicken and stuff like that as long as I chew it up real well. I have had a couple bites of hamburger, chicken breast and it goes down just fine as long as i chew it well. I used a litle catchup and on the chicken i put some slasa verde...yum. also refried Beans wiht fage yougart...lots of Protein. I used to love cottage cheese but now its gross to me...so sad cuase it has alot of Protein. also i have had lentils oatmeal, egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad. crab sala...all with a little bit of mayo... its not too bad. some time things are easier than others. oh and ricotta cheese with all sorts of stuff. im so ricottad out though. LOL

i did liquids for 2 weeks and then puree for 2 weeks and now i am at the soft for two and then on to whatever i want....im assuming that roughage stuff willtake a bit longer so they say one at a time.

My plan is this:

Day of surgery and day after: clear liquids

Day 2 through Day 10: full liquids

Day 11 through Day 20: soft foods

Day 21 through Day 30: add seafood

Four weeks post-op: add cold Cereal

Eight weeks post-op: add Pasta, vegetables, and fruit

I used this as a general guideline, but I pretty much ate whatever I wanted at four weeks out while at the same time limiting carbs, eating Protein first, and staying away from sugar. Sugar is the enemy as far as I'm concerned. It will awaken my inner monster, and so I avoid it.

Speaking of avoiding sugar and eating Protein first, hubby discovered a wonderful product that is low in calories and high in protein. We just got a bunch in the mail. It's called Artic Zero: http://www.myarcticzero.com/ I'll probably start a new thread to see if anyone has tried this.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
