OK, I think I have thoroughly jinxed myself! :eek

My grandmother once said that even if you think it, don't say it outloud! you never know who will hear you and you may change your karma! You are doing great! and don't let the your old self tell you otherwise!

I didn't say a word! (Does typing count? :nervous )

If you keep up your post-fill rate of 6 lbs a week:clap2: , you'll be zooming to the head of the pack!

The NP at my surgeon's office said I can have a fill every week if I want. She gave me 1cc to start and upped my diet phase. Gave me the Satiety Gauge and an appointment for 2 weeks. Here's the criteria for needing another fill (1/4 or 1/2 cc only after the initial 1cc):

Hungry less than 4 hours after a meal or shake

Desiring and being able to eat large amounts of food

She also said if I spent a worrisome amount of time thinking about, craving, seeking food, I should give her a call to discuss whether a fill is needed.

laurigee: I had shoulder off and on after my surgery for about 6 weeks. Who knows how they moved you during your surgery! I think if you still have shoulder pain you should call your doctor.

Hello sept bandsters. I'm back from a week long vacation and a gain of 4lbs :faint: . I knew I was eating more (and drinking), but we were out walking all day, every day. Oh well, live and learn. I got my first fill yesterday, and he went ahead and did 1.5 in my 4cc band instead of the standard 1.0. I am on day 2 of liquids, so I can't tell if I have any restriction yet.

MOM, for the Christmas challenge, log me as up 4, which puts me a total of +1 :cry . I know this monday will be better now that I have my fill, and a couple days of liquid will help too.

I'm glad to read about so many success stories. You guys are doing awsome! Keep it up.

What kind of diet phases are you guys getting? My doc just says eat mostly Protein and then add veggies to fill out your dinner. Does anyone else have thing more specific? I do well with people telling me what to do and not having to decide for myself. I realize I will have to do that later but now tell me....:)

I still have shoulder pain at times. I feel like I've missed placed a tendon or something. Trust me I feel you pain.

Sandra, I too have been told protien first and then veggies.

My doc didn't really give any specific guidelines on what to eat, and I didn't work with a nutritionist (not required because I was self-pay). All my doc said was that I should follow the bandster eating guidelines from the Inamed book, avoid saturated fats and sugar, and exercise daily. I don't always do the "proteins first" thing, because I like a lot of foods like casseroles and stews. I do understand why that's important, though, because you do stay full longer.

One tool that I would not want to live without is an indoor grill by Hamilton Beach. It's like the George Foreman Grills, but I just like the design of this one better. It makes it so easy and quick to serve a healthy dinner. I do a lot of fish and chicken on it. I love the Montreal chicken seasoning by McCormick. I pound the chicken out a bit, season, preheat the grill for 5", then cook the chicken 6". While that's going, I steam some veggies on the stove, and I've got a healthy, tasty meal in 15". Doesn't get much easier than that!

TamifromAL: Thanks for sharing your cooking tip. I'm going to get one of those grills. You must be doing something right because you are doing awesome on your weight loss! I was banded one day after you and I've only lost 27 pounds (plus 10 before my band for a total of 37). I'm 52 so maybe my metabolism is a little slower. I'm getting very discouraged. Maybe today is just a bad day. I think I'm doing everything right including exercising, so I don't know why my weight stalls so much. Thanks for sharing.

TamifromAL: Thanks for sharing your cooking tip.

Karey, you're welcome, and thanks for the compliment. I don't know why I'm losing so fast. One advantage I have is that my husband and daughter are also on eating programs (I hate the word diet), so I don't have to keep stuff in the house that I'm avoiding.

I haven't been exercising because I have plantar fasciitis which is worsened by any kind of impact activity (like walking). I keep hoping that it will get better with weight loss. I've been doing stretches and a hot/cold therapy every night the past week or so, and I do think that it's getting a bit better.

Oh, and I have a great non-scale victory to report. I went off of my BP med last week. I checked it yesterday, and my BP was 115/68 without meds! :clap2:

Karey, don't underestimate your progress. You're weight loss is great!

Hi September Bandsters,

Has every-one had their first fill. Had mine on Wednesday evening, 5.5mls in 10ml band. Had my fill at 8 pm and by 11pm could not even swallow my own saliva. Spent a miserable night being sick, and had to return for a de-fill of 1 3/4 mils leaving 3 3/4 in the band. My surgeon assures me that must first fills are between 5-6mls. Does any one ever have trouble with swelling after a fill, I wondered if I should have stuck it out for a bit longer.

Its great to see how well everyone is doing,

Tanya xx

TamifromAL: Thanks for the words of encouragement. Way to go on your blood pressure medication.

Tanya67: Sorry you had such a bad experience. I guess they can always put more in. I only had a 1 cc fill, but I think I might have a different kind of band. Hope you're feeling better soon.

my reply posted before I was done... But I need to ask you all

OPINIONS PLEASE

If I am loosing weight 30 pounds in 6 weeks why do I need a fill.. does it really make you feel full so the restriction, throwing up and gagging is worth it. Or should I wait until I am at a stall....?????????

tHANKS TO ALL

My opinion is to wait until you stall. Some Drs don't even fill you unless you have stopped losing...

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
