Dr. Kelly On July 20Th

Decided not to go the insurance route because their surgery date would interfere with my heavy college curriculum next semester (my last semester yay!).

I've been speaking with Omar and he's done an awesome job so far. I haven't had many questions because most of them have already been answered either on this board or through my own research.

Anyone else going around then?

  • Hi everyone, I am 3 days out from surgery and feel wonderful. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Kelly, Omar and the entire staff at the hospital. They checked on me constantly, I am just amaz

A Lighter Me still uses his name and I think that is so wrong. I wouldn't use them just out of principle, even if I hadn't chosen Dr. Kelly. That kind of stuff just annoys me to no end!

Thank you both for responding! I have emailed them because it is kind of early there now.

I am here getting surgery today with Dr Kelly. So far everything had gone just fine. I have my mom with me but there is another girl by herself and she had Omar, Dr Kelly and Cecy all in and out of her room just visiting all day yesterday. Got my IV about 30 mins ago and the nurse spoke English and got it first try. Dr. Kelly had a meeting last night with a marketing company and they came into my room for quiet a while discussing how it is currently hard to find him and what kind of things to do to make it better. He is a man of integrity and totally puts you at ease. I have to admit it was a little concerning crossing the border and checking into the hospital right up to when Dr Kelly came into the room. The hospital is very simple and a lot less intimidating than US hospitals.

Sharon, your name came up a lot yesterday. Omar said he has never seen anyone have such an easy time as you.

I head to sx in a couple hours and will let you know how it goes.

Aaaw that is great to hear sherlee! I miss the team! I did have such an easy time & the team were so great to me.

Good luck to you Sherlee, I am sure you will do fine, but will say a little prayer for you. Look forward to seeing your update!

Sharon

I have 4 days until I leave for my surgery with Dr. Kelly. Any last minute advice. Getting pretty nervous as it gets closer.

reese, just try to relax, you will have a brilliant time there. They will look after you well.

Do you have gas-x strips? I didn't need them, but that is good to take with you.

You will have a great time though. Are you going alone or taking someone with you?

If you are bringing anyone with you, have them bring Snacks and their own drinks. The restaurant in the hospital is healthy food and not that it is bad but just very different if that is not what you are used to eating. Really nowhere for your guest to get drinks or snacks.

Make sure you have something to do bc I got here at about 3 yesterday and my sx is not until 1 so a lot of just sitting around. They do have TV that has a few English speaking stations. Other than that not much more that has already been covered. We stopped at Wal Mart on our way in yesterday bc Cecy needed to get a few things so if needed anything that you didn't want to travel with I sure she would stop.

I will update if I come across anything else.

No my husband is going with me. We are making this our 25+ anniversary trip. Thanks for the advice. I know I will be fine just let the nerves get the best of me sometimes. Thanks again.

Thanks Sherlee, I am eager to read about your journey. I love to read how everyone is doing.

Thanks

Reese

Bring a camera if you don't have one on your phone bc you will do a quick tour of San Diego. Sit back and take it in but don't get nervous about your surroundings coming into the hospital. Once you get here you will be at ease. Everyone here works to make you comfortable and relaxed. You will get a sleeping pill for the night before sx. They have the best green tea with honey that I was drinking pre op.

I AM!!! :-)

Do the surgeons/nurses wear gloves and masks? I am terrified of infections... THx

The surgeons in the operating room all definitely had gloves & masks on. The nurses that came in to see me to give me my 'shots' in my IV just had gloves on, no masks.

Omar responded to my email and sent the questionnaire. Some things are hard to answer - does anyone know what they weighed when they started school? (Age 5-6). I don't even know my teacher's name! How one earth do I answer that? I wasn't ever conscious of a scale until college.

I think the reason they ask these questions is to get a history of your obesity. I didn't remember what I weighed but I was a skinny kid. I got fat in my twenties. Do the best you can, they will help you.
