The Protein shakes have everything you need and your body can survive on that and live off the fat storage for a while. People that are not overweight do fasting diets that don't have such high Protein intake that we will be getting with our shakes. The protein and nutrients are the important thing, the calories are not a big deal.

There are people that go on medifast for months at a time, liquid diets and older people that are much more fragile that drink only ensure and live off liquid diets.

It will not harm your organs, doing this for 14-1 month, if anything it will get rid of a fatty liver which is much more dangerous. Just drink your 64 ounces of Water and it will be fine.

Got ya :) Thanks for explaining that. I was a bit worried.

I'd like to add that people that overeat days before having to go on their liquid fast will have a much more difficult time with the liquid fast than someone that stayed at 800-1000 calories the week leading up to the fast. I have done a liquid diet in the past a few times and my doctor and nurse confirmed that the people that go out and overindulge days before the fast seem to have extremely hard times with the liquid diet because they are stretching their already stretched out stomach and it's a shock to their system.

Clarifying it to read "liquid" fast (Protein shakes)

I actually saw what you are talking about 1st hand, watching someone who was supposed to be on a liquid diet 5 days prior to surgery consume many things she shouldn't have. Using the excuse that at some point in the body it will turn to liquid. Needless to say, she did spend a bit of time in the bathroom purging after lunch for about the 1st 4-6 weeks post-op (due to the same things).

Could you imagine having surgery and then barfing? That is my worse fear, after surgery it hurts to laugh or cough, I couldn't imagine throwing up. I would be so worried about getting a leak or twisting my intestines.

I see you have lost pre-surgery and it just makes sense not to cheat during the fast and not to go all wild & crazy overeating before the surgery. I think about it like this...I'm having 80-85% of my stomach surgically removed. Surgery comes with so many risks, including death, if I'm willing to accept these types of risks to have this surgery, why wouldn't I give it 100%

Some people will make mistakes and cheat, but don't use the cheat to continue to cheat, just move on and focus on what you are trying to accomplish here.

It's not going to be all that pleasant, I myself am not afraid of the lack of food of the Protein shakes, I'm afraid that if I find out tomorrow I flunked the H-Pylori test I will be stuck taking the Prevpak for H-Pylori during my 14 day shakes prior to surgery because this cocktail of two antibiotics and other meds are suppose to be wicked and cause severe diarrhea and be horrendous. If I don't have H-Pylori, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will do my best to deal with the 14 days with pleasure, but if I have to take the pills I'll deal with it, because it's better to be safe than sorry.

Yup, lost 31 lbs....for the last 2 months I have already been doing 2 Protein Shake smoothies for 2 of my meals daily. So the fast shouldn't be that big of a deal to me. Just have to eliminate the skim milk for Water in the shake and not add the Chobani yogart and frozen fruit :)

I am the type that researches everything completely, and yes, follows 100% of what I should to accomplish what I am trying to accomplish. I see no point in going through surgery if you are not committed to a before and after life change.

Good for you Kmoore. I have done one or two Pure Protein 100% whey shakes (Frosty Chocolate) a day since November.

I got great news today though, I don't have H-Pylori!!! So Monday I start my 14 day shake, surgery is still a go on June 4th!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
