There she is, Miss America!

So, the news for me is that my navel incision from my gallbladder surgery is infected. It has been painful and I noticed it was smelling funky and leaking Fluid (yuck) so I called the surgeon. I had to go in today and he poked and prodded and dug at it (OUCH, I didn't know whether to cry, scream, or kick him in the head, and I have a really high tolerance for pain), took a sample of something, cleaned it out and rebandaged it, and sent me home with a 5-day course of a strong antibiotic. I have been feeling really "off" and tired, and was just getting really annoyed that this incision would not quit hurting, so I hope this gets to the bottom of it. I have to set my alarm and wake up in the middle of the night to take one of the pills, because it can't be more than 6 hours apart! I am leaving for 3 weeks in India (for work) on 8 Dec, so it had better be resolved by then! I have to go back and see him on Monday and he will let me know if it is getting better fast enough or we need to do something else.

Hi everyone had my 6 week visit with the surgeon last week, 10kg since surgery, pleased with the progress so far. Was wondering if any one had any tips to try and prevent Hair loss, I don't have thick hair as it is so am a little nervous about that.

There really isn't anything you can do, but rest assured it will grow back. I'm still losing heaps at almost 7 months out. Don't waste your money on Biotin and all the other things, they are just hype.

Hi Merry - I have been taking silica and have done since I started loosing my hair. Like Misty says, I am pretty sure it didn't prevent the hair loss but what it has done is improve the condition of what hair I have and my nails that were also beginning to break. I too have thin hair and 18 months out from my op it is still recovering - my hair dresser friend says it will take well over a year maybe two. Apparently healthy hair grows about 1cm a month so if you are stressed I assume it will grow a lot slower so it could take a while. I lost so much, my husband said you could see my scalp - he didn't tell me at the time as I was so freaked out I was going to lose it all! That would have really done my head in (no pun intended) but to cut to the point, my girlfriend was diagnosed with breast cancer and it snapped me back to reality and I just stopped worrying about it as it will grow back. One thing I did do which I probably wouldn't do again was I decided to go blonde so got my hair bleached - probably not a good idea when your hair is already stressed!

hi all - are any of you having trouble retaining your subscription to this thread? I am using an iPad so it is probably related to the app. I just means I have to find the thread every time I log on. I have sent an email to support so hopefully they will fix it soon.

Hey Misty - sorry to hear you haven't been well and I hope things get sorted out before you have to travel! What a great job to be able to travel to other countries though :) I am lucky if I get out of the local area, let alone the state (for work purposes).

Merry- I think just taking care of what hair you have is the best advice. There are a lot of expensive treatments out there and not a lot of evidence to suggest that it's worth the outlay sadly. I lost a lot of hair following the surgeries and though it sucked (and I ended up cutting most of my hair off as a result), it is slowly getting back on track and starting to get a healthy look about it. My best advice is to look after your hair, get regular treatments at the hairdresser (added bonus of a lovely head massage which I love) and just go with it. It does get better after a little while.

Sue - I've had the same problem and have just had to uninstall the app on my iPhone as it wouldn't load. I am going to reinstall it later tonight so I hope that it sorts itself out. It got stuck on the logging in screen since Alex merged my accounts - a small price to pay though to have it all sorted out. It took ages to get the app to subscribe me to this thread but did eventually work so keep at it!

Wore a new dress to work today for a function and had so many lovely comments. It was just nice not to feel self conscious about how I look! I had to speak to a group of about 30 people for a two hour meeting today and it just didn't phase me at all. Not even a little nervous - such a difference. I would have been a wreck doing something like this pre-surgery.

Cheers, Liss

Hi Everyone, I have been keeping up with all of your news but life has been a bit hectic so I haven't been posting much anywhere.

Welcome Back Sarahjp, I hope 'Dr Grumpy' is as happy with your loss as you are? Congratulations on your determination to make this surgery work for you. I am still seeing him and I actually got a hug and a smile out of him at my last visit, when I showed him the pictures of me on the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge which I climbed on 5th October.

Sueoco, I have never liked exercise and at 7 months post op, I still can't/don't want to make it part of my life. So, well done on joining the Gym.

Merry, I know that lots of people lose their hair post op, however, I am 7 months post op and my hair is healthier, thicker and looking better than ever. So don't count on losing your hair because it may not happen.

Misty, I am sorry that you are unwell after your surgery and I hope that the antibiotics do the trick before you travel back to India.

I have now lost 30 kgs and have done something very impulsive, which I would never have done 7 months ago. I have booked myself a very quick trip to Sydney for the Sydney 500 V8 Supercars Final Round which is on over the weekend of 6,7,8 December. My favourite driver Craig Lowndes has a chance of winning the 2013 Championship and I have a Grandstand ticket at the finish line to see him win. I just a bit excited *in case you didn't already get that, lol*. I am a little anxious that I won't fit in the airplane seat, but I'll worry about that when I'm on the plane on Thursday. lol

If there are any Sydneysiders who would like to get together for coffee or dinner over the weekend, I'd love to catch up. I'm staying in Parramatta and I won't have a car but I can do taxi's if necessary.

Keep up the great work everyone and have a wonderful Thursday.

Michele

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
