Hi Rybecca. I think you guys call them Pension Funds over there.

Basically employers and employee make contributions that are set aside for retirement. They're heavily regulated in Australia and all employees have them. From what I know you can access funds from them for financial hardship or medical reasons, but this has to be approved by the board that manages the fund.

That's my understanding anyway.

Cheers,

Deano

Lila, you are looking awesome, I can totally see the change in your face. It has taken me a while for my head to catch up with my body.

Thanks shell, I would like to hit 100 or below before I fall pregnant, but we will start trying a little more than before but just not full on.

Aussiegirl, that is the hardest the maintenance stage, as you can find yourself going back to bad habits, keep us updated on your challenges. Your info has been great.

A Super is somewhat equivalent to our 401k. I lived and worked in Australia for a few years. I am still working on getting my Super money back .

Hey does anyone have any tips for stopping myself from jumping on the scales everyday? I want to nip it in the bud, it's starting to turn into a habit!

Dean I am currently struggling with the same, in fact it's the first thing I do when I wake up. I think I will have to get my hubby to hide and bring out once weekly..

Well just thought I'd share with you one of my really bad habits which I have experienced over the past 3 days which is so stupid of me

Had a big investigation at work and the last 3 days that is all that consumed me. day one I got home at 9pm and was like "OMG I have not eaten a thing all day" oh well I'm tired I'm going to bed - day 2 got home at 11pm and "oh well I'm so damn tired, haven't eaten all day so better try and eat this chicken drumstick - day 3 back at work 6am and went through another day with no food therefore making myself have something last night for dinner.

this was my routine pre-op of not eating all day then starving by night and consuming junk food like maccas/kfc etc - the difference now is I'm not hungry at all :) (oh and I don't have any desire for maccas or KFC anymore, the thought actually makes me feel ill)

On my way to work today grabbed some various fruits, nuts to take to work to pick at during the day to ensure I eat something..

Just thought I would share my bad vices and what led me to where I was :( looks like something I am going to have to work on until I kick this habit ...

:-) Hi Dean - I think we have all struggled with this habit in the early stages - it is just so damn exciting to see the weight dropping off! I just set my self one day a week - Friday as soon as I woke up and tried to stick to it - I only made it to Tuesday one week, then Thursday the next and finally I stick to Fridays - I wouldn't worry too much. I think it is all part of the fun as you can set the weight just going down! As your weight loss slows you won't be so keen to jump on every day! Enjoy!

Hi Shell - You are looking fantastic by the way! This is a hard one - because I actually do still feel a bit of hunger (no where near the driving force it was pre-op!) I actually don't forget to eat. I do find I snack between meals and I always carry nuts in my bag. Just try carry Snacks in your bag and try and use other peoples eating as a reminder for you i.e. if people start saying time for lunch or im starving ask yourself when you last ate - this might help.

My problem is that I snack on Protein or carbs between meals and I think I should actually be eating Protein at my main meals and snacking on veges and nuts and only having my carbs for breakie. I am going to try this over the next few weeks as I am concerned that I am not eating enough raw veges. Aaa ah - the challenges we have but all well worth it compared to the ones we had pre-op! All the best!

Re Snacks, i carry the tiny boxes of sultanas in my bag for emergencies. Love nuts and they are good for me, but I only ever have small serve. fruit, vege and dairy are the best Snacks and I love raw veges with yummy hommus as a snack.

I don't get the old hungry feeling, but I do get a odd feeling which I usually ignore and yes I too gorget to eat sometimes, but I could never go the whole day without food. Shelley maybe put an alarm on your phone reminding you to eat during the day when you are busy and be organised by having food on hand.

Dean I struggle with this. It seems the more often I weigh myself, the longer my stalls last and then when the weight goes down, I give it a break for a while. Crazy I know.

Dean - I don't own scales. Even now although the temptation to buy them has been great. The reason I don't is that I know I wouldn't be able to keep checking my weight :) I work at a hospital so now that I am back at work, I just nip into the office and weigh myself once per week. It's not for everyone but it works for me :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
